I've been threatening to get my nutrition together for a long time but made a decision that today is the start. Not in bad "shape" as I only want to lose 8 - 10 pounds from where I am now but always seem more tired and sluggish then I'd like. Now if I could only get my 3 year old to eat better that would really help.

Good luck!  I'm in the same boat - would like to get 5-10 pounds off.  I'd have an easier time with it if the folks at the office would get on board .  Anyway, good luck to you!

Hunger and lack of alternatives are good motivators. : ) Not trying to be flip - our 4 year old is a picky eater but is suprisingly adventurous because she has no alternative except to be hungry.

Good luck with your good eating.

I try that but my Wife and Mother-In-Law don't follow through when I'm not around.

What you eat fuels your training, so you should be eating healthier not just from a weight-loss perspective, but also from a training perspective. I think that once you really get into training, your desire to eat those really unhealthy foods will start to diminish.

Good luck! I hope it's a success for both you and your child !

It sounds like Daddy is going to set the example in the household! Kids are so easy to influence. When there is something around to eat that isn't good for her... just by you turning it down and saying "That's yucky", will go a long way.

As you know there are way too many obese teenagers... and it didn't start when they were 12 years old... it was years of eating badly... they are now predicting that kids will die before their parents due to obesity. Sorry to be such a downer, but it's so sad.. and especially when the parents could have fixed it.

So, good luck and set the example! Eat good food and hopefully the rest will follow.

Nope it was yesterday. Had made it through a day at the Mall unscathed and suddenly we walked by "Old McDonald's" (actually a Wendy's) and the little one had to have nuggets. About half way through my meal (which obviously I didn't have to order) I decided enough is enough and that's it. Like I said it's not that I'm heavy, 180 lbs, just want to be able to give my all to the Tri stuff.

Instead of saying today is my last day of eating, try eating "clean" Sunday through Friday. Focus on fuel foods for workouts, and avoid finishing your kids meals...particularly if they are eating mac n' cheese or something (my big problem). Saturday is feast day, enjoy yourself a bit and don't feel guilty...you earned it all week. You will start to find that the "feast" day become less and less important. Also, be scientific about your caloric intake as to output for training, my wife swears by that approach.

I have a 2.5 year old that doesn't eat...dinner time is my least favorite time of day...I feel your pain.

The sooner you change your eating habits the easier it is for your kids.

I have 5 kids 18-9, the youngest two eat really well.

I changed how I ate in '03 (& have lost 95 pounds) when the younger two were little and they adapted to healthy eating..the oldest 3 kept more on what they had learned. I wish I had been a better role model for my kids their whole lives as to eating.

The youngest two bring salads to school for lunch, munch on veggies after school, eat lots of fruit, and often we need to remind them to eat their protein. Our 12 year old is really into sports nutrition and uses some of what I have learned for her soccer practices, games and especially when she plays double headers.

Good for you to make a change and be a positive example for your kids

Remember eating healthy is only half the battle.  In looking at your logs, you may want to pick up the working out too!

A diet clean-up can work wonders. On Jan. 1 I was at 180 lbs., which was the bottom of my 180-185 range that I've been in for a couple years (down from 205 about 4 years back). I changed my lunch several days a week to a big bowl of oatmeal + fruit. I cut out fried chips (potato chips, etc.), and substituted baked pretzels in moderation. I eliminated soda w/ sugar. In about 10 days, I dropped 5 pounds of fat to 175. Bang, gone. That wasn't water weight. I have plateaued now at the new 175 lb. level, but I hope to make another minor adjustment and see if I can get to 170.

You can do it, you just need to carry through on your decision. It's been difficult in my house, because I'm not the one who brings the junk food home from the store. However, I persuaded my wife to buy in to this effort with the promise of a nice vacation if she can help get me to 170 by the end of March. Now, she's getting more conscious of her eating, too, and she has even dropped a couple pounds. And the cupboard is no longer filled with 12 flavors of fried chips.

Good luck -- you'll be really happy when you see the results on the scale!
