Subject: Wheel Recomendations....on a budget!!!
I know that nothing is cheap with this sport!!! But, I have limited funds available and I'm in need of some new wheels. My bike currently has Alexrims AT450s on it and they have taken some hard hits and pretty much they've been religated to trainer wheels. both the front and rear are true side to side but hop up and down and probably riding on the trainer is not helping a whole lot.

I'm looking for a decent set of wheels to get me through this next season. I'm looking as light as possible < 1800 grams, somewhat aero 27mm or higer and somewhere under $300!!! I know I'm crazy but I'm not sure my current set of wheels is going to make it much furhter. What I've looked at so far are Neuvation M28 Aero2, Xero Lite XR-1, Forte Titan, Reynolds Alta Comp and Vuelta.

Any recomendation would be appreciated. Thanks!

A couple months ago I picked up an Easton Vista SL wheelset for $160 from performancebike.com which didn't include the 10% credit back for the club membership (and they were shipped free to store). They were $200 on sale and I used a 20% coupon. I only see the Vista listed on the Performance site now. You should be able to get an SL set elsewhere for 2-something.

Oh, and keep an eye on eBay, you might find good deal on something there.

Any complaints about those so far? I would be using them all of the time.

I just took them for their first spin yesterday on my newly built tri bike !!!  And the wheels were just fine.   I have a set of Velomax wheels on my road bike which have been trouble free for thousands and thousands of miles.  Easton purchased Velomax, and the Vista SL are pretty similar to what I already ride except that the drive spokes attach to the hub in a more conventional manner now.  In fact, the hub on my new Vista SL set is a Velomax hub.

Here are some reviews from other people...

The owner of the shop where I had my bike assembled and got my fit (he's a former pro cyclist and triathlete, btw) said these wheels were nicer than the low-end Ksyrium Equipe.

Go with the Neuvations. Can't bet'em for the price. Plus they are very durable.

Not sure how much Mavic Aksiums go for Stateside, but I think they're great. Light(ish), stiff and near bomb proof. I've been commuting on mine for nearly a year on really bad roads and they've stayed completely true.

I bought new wheels last september.. looked at neuvations but the low spoke count made me nervous (I had cracked rims).

I ended up buying Mavic Aksiums for $220 or so.  I am 230# and pretty hard on wheels, 1200 miles so far without a whisper of a problem.  No idea what they weight but frankly I don't care about that for training wheels (in fact, the heaveier the better, to a point)

What's the opinion on bladed aero spokes? Do they make any difference? I can get basically the same Neuvation wheels cheaper with regular spokes on them. Pretty much the same thing with other brands as well.

check these out, I posted on RBR asking who makes the tallest alloy wheel. Somebody posted a link to these. 40mm tall rim, Bladed spokes, 1650 for the pair. Looks like a good deal.....
$375 shipped to the USA (come from asia)

I just noticed the pic is of the 30mm version, the 40mm wheels not out til may. On the 30mm info page, there is a link for reveiws...seem like they are getting pretty good reveiws.

Neuvations hands down the best wheel for the money.  The M28 Aeros are my every day training wheel.

I have about 7000 miles on a set of Easton Vista wheels.

Have been hit by 2 cars and had a nice crash on New Year's Day. The wheels still ride just like the day I got them and they don't go out of true.
