Subject: Wedding anniversary gifts

My wife and I will be celebrating out 16th anniversary in December. We traditionally try to stay with the appropriate gift as recommended by the etiquette experts: 1st=paper, 5th=wood, 15th=crystal, 25th=silver, etc. Problem is, most of the "lists" do a year-by-year through 15, then increase to five year increments, i.e., there is no recommendation for 16, 17, 18, etc., just 20, 25, 30 once you get past 15.

Of course, in my usual, trying-to-be-helpful way, I suggested that the 16th anniversary was TRIATHLON.

I found that my training was really working, particularly with flexibility and reaction time. I was able to duck fast enough so that the pottery statue (9th anniversary present!) that she threw only hit me with a glancing blow.

She continued googling until she found a site that labeled the 16th as "Silver Holloware," so I guess I'm SOL.

Hey, there you go, your wife made good use of that anniversary present! HA! :-O  My second anniversary is coming; if the first anniversary is paper, what is the second, cardboard?!?

I've only made it to 8 (rubber and/or bronze - cycling shoes with rubber soles and a bronze sundial for her herb garden), so I can't help with 16 much. I think with the every 5th year gifts, there are so many things that you can get that they expect you to give the same thing for 5 years, or maybe if you've gotten that far, they realise that being witty every year has been a lot of work and you need each other more than yet more stuff. Dunno'... Maybe 16 through 19 are for you to go back to a previous favorite theme and have a chance to give it another try. Or maybe go back to a year that was really good and get the gift for that year as a reminder of how good that year was... I have to admit, I'm stumped. I've spent more time lately planning my midlife crisis (which would start around year 14, so we'll see how that goes).

And Mach, 2nd is cotton. Here's a free tip from me to you, no charge. My wife is a cotton candy freak, so I got her 12 bags of cotton candy and took them to our local flower shop. They made a nice arragement with a big basket, the cotton candy and some flowers.

We just had our first anniversary, and my husband is the one who knew what all the years meant.  I had no expectations, but when he told me first was paper - I told him money would be just fine.  Though i also said a cheque would cover the "paper" requirements perfectly too

So for our anniversary we gave each other the best gifts ever - our undivided attention. Went to a cabin for the weekend.

Which year is carbon fiber? Cause if that isn't one yet, it should be!

For our 31st we decided to go away for a hot sex weekend. Trouble is, at our age, by the time we got there, we forgot what we went for.

Have a great anniversary Bear!!!

I can't help much with the year thing, for our last anniversary we by chance both ended up buying the other golf clubs.

So I guess in our house the forth year is golf.

I guess we aren't traditional, but we sure did enjoy them.
