BT'ers-

I'm in the process of a bike build, and I'm pretty much down to the wheelset. As of now, I'm looking to spend around $1200 on the wheels. I've narrowed it down to the Hed Jet 60 EXs or the Hed 3s, both clinchers (I've messed w/ tubulars in the past, and just never found it was worth the money and hassles for the type of racing/workouts I do). I'm a bigger guy (200), so I want to make sure the set I end up with is tough. I'd also like to use the set more than just for pure racing. That being said, any opinions on which set to go with? The Hed 3s will add about 125 grams to the overall ride, but will the aerodynamics of the wheelset offset the marginal weight gain? I've never ridden full tri-spokes before, so don't know much about their ride characteristics (have ridden deep aeros before, so somewhat biased towards them). Any suggestions? Thanks!

I do find some humor in the fact that you call yourself a bigger guy and are worried about the offset of an additional 125 grams.

I would call Hed directly (or a store that carries both) and have that discussion with them.  Both are great wheels and will be adequate for your needs.

Think the school thought on the weight issue is aero before grams... once you get the wheels rolling the aero benifit "out-weighs" the weight

From what I hear, the Hed 3's are considered "bomb proof" by many who ride them.

As someone said on Slowtwitch... only two things would survive a nuclear blast... cockroaches and Hed3...

Seriously, we won't go wrong with either one. I have a pair of Jet 50 on my road bike and couldn't be happier.
