Subject: HED Jet 60 or Jet 90

Although I have been racing for 3 years, this will be my first set of true aero wheels. I am confused by the quote on Hed's website regarding the JET 90EX "not for the front unless you know what you are doing". Do i need to order a JET 90 for the rear and JET 60 for the front? Why would i not want a 90 in the front? I am looking to purchase soon so any help would be MOST appreciated. Thanks!

The Jet 90 is deep. Real deep.  That is why they say not to have it up front- for handling in wind etc.  The 60 is a great wheel and would be fine for front and rear.  If you can handle the expense, I'd definately buy the 90 for the rear.

PS- I don't own either.  I have raced on an old HED Jet however, and I loved it.  Good luck!

I bought HED wheels last year and they suggested at 60 for the front because of handling reasons.

If you have questions, give their tech support a call. They'll answer any questions you may have in a matter of a couple of mins vs waiting to get a bunch of responses here.

Good luck, and enjoy your new wheels!

I a 'little guy' (sub 200lbs) so you'll have to ask the experts. I train on mine - can't see spending that amt of $$ on something I can't use every day.

I chatted w/ HED's rep last week w/ similar questions. Few things:

1. If you want aero in the front, you should go w/ a HED 3 over a Jet 90. Otherwise, go w/ a Jet 60 or 50. Jet 90 would be a great rear wheel. The wind chatter w/ a Jet 90 front would likely offset any aero gains, not to mention could be dangerous.
2. If you're 190 or more, it's recommended you go w/ the EX version. Same wheel, just more spokes. The weight gain is pretty nominal, and you're assured of a bombproof wheel. No reason why you wouldn't be able to train and race on an EX set.
