7 weeks after my reconstructive knee surgery, and after 3 weeks on the trainer, I have proven to my PT that I'm ready to ride outsidie. Yes, you heard it right, I will be feeling the wind, getting run off the road by minivans, harassed by truck drivers, and loving every minute of it on Saturday. Okay, its not uninhibited riding (flat ride, rear firmly planted on seat, no putting down the right foot, and no pain), but I am stoked to feel the wind, run a few stop signs, listen to my ipod, sprint across traffic, speed in residential zones, and just about everything else I have missed. In reality it will be a lot like driving Ms. Daisy, but it will be out-freaking-side!

Have a great weekend everyone, I know I will.

Awesome!!  Just be smart and take it easy.  Taking care of yourself now and not rushing back into things will pay big dividends over the long haul.

Nothiing like that first ride after being away from it.

You'll get tired quickly: A flat 20miler took me 80 minutes, but it was the best day in months psychologically.

Super news!!

I agree not being able to do something you love makes you enjoy every minute of it even more.

 Have a fantastic ride Saturday~

You've made me feel guilty. I'm perfectly healthy and haven't ridden outside in weeks. Now I have to get off my lazy a$$ and go for a ride.

Good luck with the rehab!

My family, bought me new bibs, jerseys, and shorts for Christmas despite the fact I was on crutches and in a full leg brace (they might have just been torturing me). I have had to stare at them each time I go into my closet ever since. Now, I finally get to try out my "Arrogant B@stard Ale Jersey." It might even be shorts and short sleeve weather here in Northern California -- although I might spare people from the sight of my still swollen and freshly scared knee by rocking long pants.

It's very true that you don't know how much you miss something until its gone. I only missed about 5 weeks of riding, but I haven't run in 3 months. I can't believe I miss running so much...I used to hate it. I'll take riding for now, and once this new knee is past the break-in stage, I get to test it on the runnning trail.

Rest assured, I will have a ridiculous smile on my face as I take off out of my driveway! My goal is 20 miles...no pain...no crashes.

Heal fast baby! I'm actually trying to temper down my energy on this one a bit so I don't blow up my knee. The trainer was my best friend the past 3 weeks. 3 weeks ago I was happy just to make it around the pedals with no resistance, so getting outside is going to be heaven...even at 16-18 mph.

Just came in from my beautiful first ride outside since the knife. The birds were chirping, lights were all green, and drivers made plenty of room for me...okay, well the birds were chirping. It was great to be outside and feeling normal. It was weird not to get out of the saddle, but that will be in a couple weeks. Rode 20.5 at a 17.5 mph clip...snuck in a few mild hills which was a bit against Drs orders, but no pain in the knee. Nice weather too in Cali...rode in short-sleeves!!!

The funny thing was my cardio felt strong...maybe that trainer wasn't entirely worthless!!!

Hope you all had a great weekend.

Sounds like a fantastic ride today

Glad you were pain free, enjoying riding and hearing the birds chirp.
