Hi Mike Great feature

I have however notice a small problem (maybe just me) when I upload a route the elevations gained is wrong ! When I put data into the Garmin training Center and Motionbased, they give me roughly the same numbers, but in Routetracker planner it is way off. I have my unit set to metric, but it looks like when the data is uploaded to the Routetracker, that it thinks the meters are actually feet, thereby making my elevations gain look pretty small. Just an insignificant problem compared to the coolness of being able to upload routes straight from the Garmin

I'll take a look at this when I'm done with the workout uploading. For now, you can use the "Reset Elevation" button to get elevation data from the USGS database.

Sorry, I missed this.

Try it here and let me know if it displays any tracks.

Mike I have 305 and finally figured out how to upload. I have lots of history in my Garmin but when I try to download it, it just does the last track. I tried with the link above and the same thing happened.

Is it supposed to download all the tracks in my Garmin and I can select which I want?

Do I need to select run/bike/swim first as my first ride is now a 60 mile run. Is there an easier way to change it to a bike than going in to modify it and wait for all the points to load a couple times?

 Thanks Mike!

Any GPS routes that have been recorded in your 305 should be visible in the dropdown. If they're not, and this is consistent with the test link, then I'm not sure what to tell you because there's no BT code involved at that point. It's all Garmin stuff. It may be time to delete some stuff from your device. I'd check with Garmin first though.

Do you know when you last upgraded the firmware on the unti?  That might be worth doing.

To change that route to a bike, you'll have to load it in edit mode and save it as a bike. Or, you could delete it from the Route Tracker,  then upload and save it again.

Hi Mike,

Hate to mention this since I like this feature - and can't wait for the next phase, but the elevation issue that Mesteren noted on the 11th also affects my data. Most recent bike shows a climb of 210M but the Garmin site and Training Centre log it at around 650M. Just an FYI.

I know, I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Because there's a workaround in the 'Reset Elevation' button I haven't made this a super high priority.  Probably this weekend though, depending on how the final tweaks to workout uploading go.

i just started to play wih the Garmin upload functions with the advent of phase II.  When I try to upload a route everything works as you describe, I get the drop down list and the mini pop-up map which displays the selected route  Then you say to "click on Upload to RouteTracker".  I don't see this anywhere.

Fixed. Sorry about that. Casualty of Phase II.

The upload window looks ugly, but it works. I'll fix the aesthetics in the morning. I was up until 2:30 last night moving Phase II live and I need to get some sleep.

Hi Mike;

First, thanks for all your hard work!  I love being able to upload data directly from my GPS to the workout log.  As you may recall, I have the 301 and am not able to upload a route to the route tracker.

When I look through the plugin here, you're requesting the gpx filetype.  The 301 does not seem to support this type (the communicator demo page finds 0 tracks as well).  If I select the TCX History on the communicator plugin page, then all my tracks are shown.  Is it possible to add support for this on the route creator?

I'll look into it. tcx files tend to be much larger which can slow the process down quite a bit, but I'll see if it can done efficiently. I also don't have a 301 to test it with which could be problematic.

Hi Mike,

When you pick a file to upload, how long should it take? I tried last night, but gave up after about 5 minutes of waiting. It found all my files on my forerunner 305, I chose the newest file, and clicked to upload, but then it just stayed on the "uploading, please wiat" screen until I gave up.

Thanks

It depends on the size of the file and the speed of your internet connection.

First, make sure that your unit is set to Smart Recording. If it is, export the course and email it to the BT support account. I'll take a look at it.

Hey Mike,

When I try to upload my workouts from my 305, I'm having the problem mentioned earlier about "The plug-in was not unlocked successfully."  I cleared out my inet cache and I still have the problem.  Any ideas?

Very cool feature!  Thanks!

That's happened to me twice. It took a reboot to clear up both times. I'm not sure what the cause is, because it's all Garmin code at that level. I don't think it even gets to the point of involving the browser except to communicate the status messages.

Hi Mike

I have successfully uploaded Garmin 305 files in the past, but for some reason today it tells me I have run into an issue and suggests I contact you, nicely.  I do not know how to send the file to you so cannot accomodate that request.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Suzy,

To export a workout tcx file from Garmin Training Center:

  • Sync your 301 to Training Center using the Receive from Device button.
  • Find the workout in the panel on the left that has folders name Running, Biking, Other and Multisport. The workout will be identified by date and time in those folders.
  • Right click on that workout and select "Export..."
  • Save the file to your hard drive and email it to [email protected]

Having a problem after a cycle trip today.  The Import from Garmin function doesn't find any bike workouts for today, "6/8/2008" on my Edge 305.  I tried the Garmin test site and it finds it.    I think.

 - The Garmin test site finds "0 routes, 17 tracks and 2 waypoints".  One of them is labelled "06/08/2008 (Duration 02:21:24)" which is the correct one.  If I select it, it displays the correct path on the map.

- as I try this, it is 17:03 on the 8th of June 2008.  My PC clock is set to the correct time/tz.

- I'm trying to enter it into today's log: the log page shows "Edit training log for : Sun, Jun 8 2008"

- In Australia, our date format would mean that today is 08/06/2008.  Dunno if that matters.

- I don't have problems importing from my Garmin Forerunner 305.

- I don't think I've tried importing from my Edge before.

- I created the entry in my Edge by simply hitting Start on it before I started my ride.  I didn't pre-create the route or do anything to prepare.

- I've successfully imported today's workout into Training Centre, Sport Tracks, and MotionBased.

I suspect the problem is that something's trying to get clever about dates and is confused about when today actually is - it's usually "tomorrow" in Australia when it's "today" in the U.S. so perhaps it's looking for the wrong date.

Hope the above helps!

Sorry -  maybe there's a better place to put this... but every time I go to log any workout, I get the popup asking if I want to allow the site to access my Garmin. Any fix for this? It's starting to get to me.

Thanks!

Beyond uninstalling Garmin Communicator, no.

This is a Garmin software issue, there's nothing that we can do about it. They're aware that it drives people nuts and have indicated that they're looking into updating Garmin Communicator to take care of it.

Just an update on this - the same happened yesterday with my Forerunner 305 after a run. Looking at the other thread on this and how a 4am runner over in the U.S. had a similar problem, I'd guess it's to do with the fact that the actual logs in the watch record Zulu time.

Here's an extract from the watch:

Activity Sport="Biking"
Id>2008-05-18T22:20:38Z
Lap StartTime="2008-05-18T22:20:38Z"

I'm in GMT+10 down here, and the actual, local time when this event occurred was 2008-05-19 08:20:38. The next day, if it's not converting properly.

Chances are, for the 4am runner, if today is 2008 May 19 04:00 local time, it might be 2008 May 18 22:00 Zulu time - which is a different day and therefore the importer won't find anything for "today".

Australians and Kiwis are going to see this a LOT since it's tomorrow down here for most of the day.

Hopefully there's a routine that easily converts from Zulu time to local user time that the Garmin code can call.  Until then, there might be a couple of workarounds:

- import it into the previous day and then copy/paste it into the right one

- wait at least "n" hours to import it, where "n" is your GMT offset.  For me, that would mean waiting until at least 10:01am (GMT+10, which equals 00:01Zulu time the same day)

I'm not so sure this works actually, since yesterday's run was from 3pm till 4pm, which is 0500Z - 0600Z the same day - so the import should have found the workout as it's in the same day.  So I guess that isn't the bug after all - unless the server processing the import is also doing some sort of date check and isn't correctly comparing the Garmin's Zulu time to the user's local time (converted to Zulu time first, before the compare).

Doug

Here's a question about getting data into your logs.  Couple of days ago I imported from my garmin 305 and the lap info dropped right into my log.  Today I did it and it did not put the lap info right into my log (which I like and want).  I just gives a picture of a lap and you have to click on it to get data.  What am I doing wrong this time?  I want it like before!

 Thx

If you actually click on that lap data icon or link, it will pull up all of the information plus a new graph...we moved all of that lap data as this way cleans up the log and allows room for the pace/hr graphs too.:

So this just changed in the last few days?  Am I correct in that you have to click on it to see the data?  It won't display in your log without clicking on it, right?  And then it goes back to just the link?  Thx
