Now that I can actually swim a little I'm finding I'm a llittle disoriented when I first finish and get out of the pool. How do you overcome this (if you experience it at all)? Would earplugs help? I'd hate to climb on my bike and fall over in transition

Any feedback would be great!

Now that you mention it - I get a little dizzy too.  Not too bad, but it's there.  I think it has to do with being horizontal for 45 minutes and all the back and forth rotation.  For me it usually goes away pretty quickly.  In a race, It takes a couple seconds to get my "land legs" back, but it's usually gone before actually getting on the bike.  I don't think you need to worry, unless you remain dizzy for a long time after the swim.

I use to get a bit of this but I now wear ear plugs and it's not an issue.  Started wearing ear plugs after a massive ear infection 3 years ago.  Always was having water in the ear issues.

I'm usually fine once I throw up. Try not to transition next to me.

How warm is your pool? I've been extremely dizzy getting out of the pool after a hard workout if it happens to be a warm water day. The quality control at the pool where I swim isn't great, so we get 5-10 degree swings in temperature depending on what's working and what isn't.

I notice I get dizzy without ear plugs, more queazy in the stomach too.

Just try them out. They cost no more than $5 for a few sets. TYR makes great silicone ones.

The way I feel right afterwards I was thinking that would be me too.

Definitely going to try the earplugs and see if that makes a difference.

My team did a 600 meter time trial last night in a 25 meter pool. I passed 5 people to exit the pool in third place after the first 300 meters. (6 lane 25 meter pool). As I am walking to re-enter the water for the next 300, I thought that was going to puke. Turns out that I set my new PR for 600 meters. I was simply pushing too hard! That is the only time I get dizzy, when my HR is too high and I get out of the water.

I was having this problem too, and my DH mentioned that maybe I was not exhaling completely underwater. Since then, I have concentrated on exhaling (blowing bubbles, etc) and haven't had the problem since unless doing really hard sprints.

I used to get real dizzy and nauseous but that's all gone now that I use a combination of earplugs and these acupressure type aids I wear on my wrists called "Sea-Bands". I got them at my local pharmacy. I can swim forever now with no issues (other than being slow). (-;
