Subject: Male numbness in the saddle?
I've read many threads related to male numbness in the saddle, but can't get a fix on how common it is, or how "tolerated" it is.

My junk is always "falling asleep" no matter how I adjust the saddle (haven't had a pro fit yet - coming soon). I'm wondering if I should try a padded saddle cover...?

Please reply with any details...

Thanks!

Your junk should not fall asleep.  Try different saddles. I went through 4 saddles before I found one that works.

I started with the QR seat that came with my bike = numbness.

Then I tried the Profile Design Stryke = a little better, but an a$$ hatchet

Then I tried  the Fizik Airone = more comfy than PD Styke but numbness back

Then I tried the ISM Adamo  =  no numbness issues and just right.

Funny that this thread appeared today.  I've been experiencing this as well.  Even with a pro bike fit.  The saddle on my bike is the POS saddle that came on the bike.  This morning I bought an ISM Adamo racing saddle off eBay and hope it works.  I've heard it is a "love it or hate it" saddle.  Here's hoping that I love it.

Anything >30 minutes in the saddle used to result in numbness.  I recently adjusted my saddle and no more numbness!  I am now more on the saddle.  I can feel the saddle on my sit bones.  It is still level, just forward a little bit.

I always had numbness on the trainer but never on the road.  Unfortunately I have to ride inside enough that it was a big issue.  I also bought an Adamo and haven't had that problem since.

One more for the Adamo racing saddle!  Thanks to advice from this forum I bought it and went from pain to no pain.  I can't express how happy I am with it.  Laughing

I fixed my problem with a Sella Italia Flight Gel Flow (man that is a long name).

Most bike shops have some sort of a saddle rental program to allow you to try them out before buying. I can't imagine buying saddle after saddle at 100-150 a pop until you find the right one. Try them out for a day or two, then buy the one that de-numbs your junk the best.

Previously I had chronic numbness on rides >1 hour.

Switched to the Profile Tri-Strike and the numbness stopped.

Short time later we had another baby. (don't know if this is related or not)

Having experienced said numbness...I switched bikes...ok, so maybe there were other reasons...but anyhoo...I upgraded my "standard purchased seat" with the Adamo Road saddle...went for a 3 hr ride today...success!  No more numbing 'round here!  Yeehaw!  Each seat/butt is different...so one's "Adamo" might be another man's novocaine (numbing agent)....try until you find one that your "seat" prefers.

Subject: Adamo Cured It
Another Adamo convert, here. Before tris, I had angled my seat severely down in order to avoid the problem. The folks at the LBS put the angle more conventionally, but then I had to stand every 5 minutes in order to avoid the dreaded numbness in the crucial regions.

I've been riding my Adamo saddle for about a month now, with no numbness at all. At first, my legs still wanted to stand every 5 minutes, but I've gradually increased the time between standing to 30 minutes. I've adjusted the seat a few times and did have to get used to the additional pressure on the 'sit bones' as was advertised, but I'm a happy camper.

resolved mine with a simple saddle angle adjustment. Moved my saddle to slightly angled UP. I think I was previosly slightly down, causing my to lean forward putting pressure on the stuff.

Sligiht Hijack, but I thought I would add this in since so many folks were mentioning the Adamo Saddle.

I went and listened to John Cobb speak last week. He talked for a little bit of how he developed the Adamo. To make a long story short, he carved a block of wood and then mounted the result on his bike. He would ride the block of wood and file it down a little to make adjustments to his design. When he got to the point that he could ride his block of wood for 35 miles with no issues, he took the result over to Taiwan and told the factory to make the saddle.

He "rode his block of wood." Ha ha.

I only get it on the trainer and only when I am spining high cadence.  I think for me it has to do with preassure off the feet and on the croch.  I think I may buy one of these Adamo seats?

Fixed via Adamo recently. Still getting my sit-bones used to pressure, though.  It probably needs to be adjusted a touch.

I did not think of it that way when I typed it. But he did utilize what he had carved as his saddle.

"I'm so huge the saddle goes numb."

Chuck Norris joke?

Riding the trainer is the worst for some reason.  I loved my piece of crap seat I had with the original motobecane- the more expensive profile design seat is not nearly as good, although with an angle change it is better.

Adamo saddle?  I wish...

Selle makes a great line of seats for this called the SMP series.

I just bought the Pro. Adamo benefits, different look. I really like this saddle. Two rides, 42 and 50 miles, and I am very happy.

http://www.sellesmp.com/en/pro.htm

look at the various picture angles to get a good idea of what this seat has to offer.
