Subject: Athenas, need your help.....

My wife is doing her first tri in May, at Wildflower.  I want to get her a pair of tri shorts, but looking around I can't tell which ones would be good.  Any brands/styles you've found that work well?

Thanks!

Aww, that's nice of you!

What size is she and how long is the race?  I love my Oomph! Distance shorts for longer races.  I am an Athena (by quite a ways) but wear a size 12 pants and the XL shorts fit just fine.

I've seen some shorts in larger sizes made by Danskin that look nice, but the designs seem to want to peel off.  Maybe a nice basic black?

Also, I've had good luck with DeSoto shorts - I wore a men's pair when I first started that were just great.  The only problem I have with DeSoto is that as they get a little worn the legs get looser and they dont' have grippers to keep them from riding up.

Good luck to her in her race, I hope she has a great time!

uhhh, size.  I have no idea   I'll have to sneak a look.  It's a sprint, so short, she is also using my gel seat cover for the bike.

I'll look into the Oomphs.  Thanks

I'm an athena, and I have a pair of the danskin tri shorts - they've been just fine (mine don't have the silly flowers though)

Chris,

Key is to get tri shorts that are supportive. Ones that have the word power in fabric or name tend to be compression type and supportive for less jiggle. If your wife is self conscious support and non jiggle will be her friend. Longer tri shorts are better I think for modest folks too.

I like Oomph as well but if she has a larger waist they can be sort of snug and high waisted..depends on her shape. The ones that have the distance pad are best.

If you find out her size we can give you some more ideas.

Chris, that's so cool that your wife is getting into triathlon! Yay for her! I have a Danskin trisuit that I love. It is a one piece, but they make just the shorts. Look on REI.com. They will deliver to the store so that she can try them on, and if they don't fit or she doesn't like them, she can return them on the spot!

I love love love my new Orca tri shorts.  The chamois is comfy, not chafe-y.  The legs have "just enough" grippy stuff to keep them from moving, but not irritate my legs.

Good for her, and nice of you to want to do something to help.

Have fun at LSA.

I like danskin. I didn't like Louis Garneau. Their shorts ran really small and really short.
