Hello all, as you can see I'm in the Charlotte area (just moved to Fort Mill) and am looking to get started training. Was wondering about training programs suited towards beginners in the area, any help is appreciated!!

Will,

First of all, welcome to BT.  This is a great place to learn. I think it speaks volumes about the site that people stick around once they are no longer "beginners".  Thats what really makes this site so beneficial. Now on to your question---check out www.queencitytriclub.org.  We're a new club (started in June 07) and we really place an emphasis on helping new triathletes.  As a matter of fact, we have a transition clinic this Sunday from 930am to 12noon.  Most of the people participating will be racing the MAP Sprint on 3/29 but there is no reason you couldn't participate as well.  Here's the link for the clinic  http://www.activezach.com/events/eventDetails.cfm?pEventId=2362

The Queen City website has a lot of information about local programs including bike training, masters swim programs, and other clinics.  Let us know if we can help with anything!

Welcome to the Carolinas. I am a newbie also, I have run a few 5 and 8k's as a clydsdale and now I am working on my first triathlon in May in China Grove. If you think you would be interested in a super sprint tri, this is a good one to start with. It is a 250 yd pool swim, 15 mile bike and 5k run. Check the link below and again welcome and good luck.

Typically, clydesdale is a category for guys over 200 pounds.  Sometimes they are 5'2 and sometimes they are 6'6.  There's a real variety in the category. Most of the larger races have a separate category for clydes and sometimes even for masters clydes (200+ and over 40)

LOL yeah I should have cleared that up first all vol, thanks medic. I think my days running anything in the clydsdale class are about over. Stepped on the scale this morning and only have 39# to get below 200 hooray! The tri I am doing in China Grove has a 250# min for clydsdales so I am going to go AG in that one, considering it will be my first one I just want to complete it no matter what. It has been a rough couple of days, I am going to swim again tomorrow and then maybe if it is nice I'll ride the course and see how it feels.
