Anyone planning to do the Capitol View Tri on 6/7?

http://www.capitolviewtriathlon.com/

I'm just wondering what Lake Mendota is going to be like in early June. Cold, most likely?

I am not doing it the race although it is basically in my backyard and I think it sounds fun.  I am signed up for a duathlon while I wait for the water to thaw (kidding!).  Honestly, I do believe the water will be cold given the winter and Spring weather (today was 2F).  I also believe the water will be high give near 100 inch snow fall.

yep. It will be cold, but at least it will be clean-ish/clean-er than when it is later in the summer!

Wow, never heard of it before. But, considering I'll be doing my first aquathon of the season at the end of May, I wouldn't be too scared of the water temp. It'll be chilly, but fine.

I signed up for this one too!  Has anyone done this race that can share any of their own experiences with it?  I heard the run was a cross-country type route.  Sounds pretty awesome!

Joe Runner did the Spring and I did the Olympic race last year  (it was the morning before the 10 inches of rain).  Had a good time and plan on doing it again this year.  Water temp was fine.  Read RR for more details.

My coach did it just this past summer and really liked it.  He lives closeby to Governors State Park, where I think it's run.

I believe Endurance House sponsors it or has some influence with it.

I know a few well seasoned athletes who participated last year and all said they would do it again.  The water was really rough (of course that could change this year) and the bike (hilly) and run (cross country and hilly) course is challenging.  The run was particularly tough because the cross country course got a lot of rain the prior few days which made it more uneven and the more people that ran on it the worse it got.

It might be on my list.

I did the sprint as a team with my wife last year.  I enjoyed it and am thinking about bumping this one to the Oly for this year.  For the sprint swim, the water was mosly calm, but I understand by the time the Oly people went, it was quite choppy.  Nice temp, I thought.  Oh, most people walked to the first bouy in the sprint, I tried to swim,  but I kept bumping into the walkers.

The bike was a rolling flat with a few good hills.  I remember the wind being strong, but maybe thats what made the OLY choppy.

The trail run was a bit muddy and the finishline was like a bog due to all the rain prior, but it was a very nice event for the fist one.

Just hope they have mile markers on the run in '09.

There were a lot of 'walkers' in my Sprint Tri last August... makes it tough, for sure!

I am really excited for this one, esp. the run.  When you say the water temp was fine, would you recommend a wetsuit?  Would I be OK without one?

Also, I looked this one up in RR, but I didn't return any finds on my searches.  I can be blonde sometimes, so if someone sees it around, can you post a link plllllllleeeeeeease!

SKD- I had a full wetsuit and was fine.  I have a buddy that did the sprint.  Awesome swimmer.  He did not have a wetsuit and, in the end, wished he had.  He said it took him the entire bike to warm up.   I recommend the wetsuit.  Then again, I need the bouyancy.  Hope that helps a little.

I am planning to do the Olympic this year. It will be my first for this distance. If anyone has tips, or training groups in the Madison area, I would welcome the company outside, once it stops snowing. ( I realize this wont be for a few months still...) Thanks!

Welcome peanut. There are a few of us here from Madison, and we'll be out there training. Not sure of your gender, but there's going to be a new women's cycling group this year that will be hosting weekly rides. There's also a Wednesday night rides group that does rides throughout Dane County. Fleet Feet has a yahoo list and they hold a bunch of weekly group runs. And, last but not least, there's a mad town swimmers google group that holds weekly informal group swims at Lake Wingra - lots going on!

Oh, and folks like Runs_With_Jasper and I do ridiculously early a.m. long runs on Saturdays and sometimes Wednesdays.

No "sign up" necessary. Once we figure out our schedule, I'll post it here, and we'll post it in all the local places.  Welcome to our crazy little community.

i think the date is wrong on BT... i believe the race date is actually 6/14....

i did the Sprint last year... the water was pretty cold... so you would likely want a wetsuit - most people had them... including myself...

however the water is very shallow out to the first buoy... so most people walked/ran basically the first 1/4 of the swim...

its a tough course... but a fun race... very well managed... the weather was great last year...

i'll definitely be back there... however, hoping to do the olympic this year...
