Welcome.  Unfortunately I can't help you out on the question of becoming an elite triathlete.  Although you will certainly find plenty of information here to get you started.  Good luck with your training, and don't worry, it's safe to say after reading a lot of threads on this site that most of us are/were pretty hopeless at swimming.  Practise makes perfect!!

Welcome!  I don't know about the elite stuff either, but do a search for tri coaches online and see if they have articles about that type of stuff.

Good luck!

Welcome Sam,

Nice to have another aussie on board. Unlike most of the others, we are all into races Down Under....

HAve you raced yet?

Welcome Sam! I don't know first hand about becoming an elite triathlete, but I do have a friend who will turn pro in the next year on two. It seems he approached it by winning as many races as possible and training very hard under the guidance of professional coaches. You can go a long way with enthusiasm and hard work, and it always helps to surround yourself with excellent people.

Here's an article you might like about Aussie Triathletes:

Good luck!

I know how to become a pro in the US, you have to win overall in 3 USAT sanctioned events, or 10 top 3 overall in a USAT sanctioned event, and it has to be an event with over 400 competitors. Its what I'm trying to do before my 2006 triathlon season. Then you get a pro card and whenever you sign up for a race you have to put in your pro cards #. This is what an ITU official told me at a race.
