Veteran 199 Albuquerque, NM | Subject: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Ok, I think this is the most BTers I've seen listed under one race and we are under 100 days to IMCdA and nobody has gotten this thread rolling? I guess I'll dive in and see what happens. This will be my 5th IM event but my first time at CdA. I am not fast at this distance but I'm persistent and enjoy myself. There is a small pack of us New Mexico Outlaws coming to race...it's always nice to race with friends. Who are our first timers at this distance? Who are our multi-timers? How is your training and more importantly, how is your MOTIVATION! |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene 2nd Iron Distance and 1st CDA for me. Training has been up and down for this one as we have had a rough winter in Michigan but hopefully can push hard for the last three months and come strong on race day. Best of luck to all! |

Master 1978 Chelmsford, Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Training is great, motivation is great! I'm sure that'll change once I start seeing more volume but for now I'm still way psyched! 2nd IM event here. My first of 2 in 08. Definitely great to race with friends...a few friends coming up to race with me, and I'm sure a bunch of future friends too! |

Master 1927 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Thanks for being pioneering Pilgrim! My 1st race at IM distance and my first at CDA! So I'm an IM virgin and scared out of my wits! My stomach is churning just thinking about it! But I'm so excited. My motivation is in tact. Though the training is killing me as I have to fit it in with all the other things in my life but I'm working it out! |

Master 1551 Virginia Beach, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene This will be my first IM and I am a bit scared; mostly about the biek course. It's really hard for me to find hills to train on, but I'm doing a century ride in May that has 10,000 ft of climbing; that ought to help me a bit. |

Champion 5345 Carlsbad, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Training is going great so far for me I have a tuneup race next weekend (And HIM) and will be doing a little mini-taper next week. Then the training is going to start getting really sick. My running is going great, my cycling could use a bit of work, and my swimming is way farther than I ever expected given that I am about 3 months Post-Surgery. (Had Shoulder Surgery in December to repair a Torn Labrum) This is my 2nd Ironman and I am feeling very motiviated to train mostly because I am lucky to be even doing the race. (My recovery went way better than anyone expected in spite of the fact that my injury was worse than average) |

A bit nervous as the whole race experience seems overwhelming, but I'm sure it'll all flush out in the end! |

A bit nervous as the whole race experience seems overwhelming, but I'm sure it'll all flush out in the end! Enjoy that overwhelming feeling! It's all around you once you get into town. It was more than just the race last year, it was the entire week in Tempe that made the experience real. I can guarantee that the overwhelming "bigness" of it will help motivate you come race week! I am so psyched for this...and yes, you're gonna hear me say that about a million times between now and June. |

Veteran 201 Chilliwack B.C | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene 1st IM for me. Very nervous, some days I figure I can do it, and others I just freak out. Training is so so. I have my long ride up to 5hrs (142km), and long run is 1/2 Marathon. Longest swim workout has been 3600 meters. |

Though the training is killing me as I have to fit it in with all the other things in my life but I'm working it out! Ditto for me. I just finished a 75 mile ride. My longest ever was last summer in prep for a HIM and it was 80. I felt better today on 75 than I did last year doing 80, but dang am I tired. I can't imagine another 37 and then a full mary. The riding tiredness gets better right? Please tell me it does. I was fine to 50. Then my butt and my legs started to protest. By mile 70 they were very angry with me. But I didn't collapse at home. I still managed to clean the kitchen and do laundry and go to target. Of course, no one is gonna have to rock me to sleep tonight! |

Member 78 Hayden, ID | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene First IM for me as well!! Can not wait until 6-22. Training is going good. Following a 36 week training program and have not missed any long days yet, however I am excited that I get next weekend off - Going to Vegas Baby!! I think that the break in training will be more advantagious than the training itself. Sure will be able to focus more time on training now that my beloved Zags got knocked out on their first game - bummer. Good luck everyone and I hope to see any and all locals on the bike course soon! |

St Petersburg, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Hello everyone! IMCDA will be my 2nd and I'm hoping to shave off a lot of time. My training is coming along even though you aren't seeing it posted on this site. I'm trying to be 'balanced' between work and personal life and training. Last time I was totally immersed in my training and I still ended up trying to get through it with a knee pain that I developed on a tough training day two months before the big event. I'm definitely going to enjoy my 2nd in a beautiful setting with all my friends |

Expert 762 Missouri | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Second Ironman. Second year in a row at CDA. It is a great course and I love the town. I had a major mechanical on the bike last year (blown tire sidewall), so I wanted to come back this year and see what I can do . . . . |

Veteran 199 Albuquerque, NM | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Cool, looks like a lot of first timers. It looks like some are worried about doing the full IM when the long days of training can feel so hard. All I can say is never underestimate the power of a good taper. When your training volume gets real high you can have several training days that feel really hard and you begin to wonder what you have gotten yourself into. I think the other IM vets will back me up when I say that the training is harder than the actual race...unless of course you don't train then the race will be a real monster. Anyway, the race is an awesome experience and wheather you cross the line in under 10 hours or at 16:59:59 it is a golden moment |

Member 31 Star, Idaho | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene My first IM. It was a big wish to try one and now it si getting closer. I read all the race reports from last year and keep my eyes on the training plan. I like the training log, I am not driven enough to train without supervision. And figure if the bike does well and food stays in, the body will be ready and we will make it. I am there to enjoy and finish, just to get my moneys worth. We will be driving up on the 18th of June and hope to enjoy the place for little, but I know I will be just too excited to think about anything else. Jitka Edited by jitka 2008-03-31 3:51 PM |

Member 21 Pasadena, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Hi all -- Yes, IM CDA will be my first. I've done 65 marathons, a few ultras, three halfs IM races and a 100-mile three-day triathlon (Lake Tahoe end of September -- great stepping stone to IM: 2-mi. swim, 72-mile bike, marathon run over three days). I just did Oceanside 70.3, now the big volume hits for the next month. Very exciting (better word than intimidating...) Looking forward to following everyone's training adventures. Sharon McN

Expert 762 San Antonio, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Another IM virgin here. My mojo was lacking due to leg issues but they seem to finally be working themselves out. I'm also doing a couple races and that has brought things back into focus instead of training to train. I'm doing a 62 miler bike this weekend that is all hills that I'm looking forward to. Still having trouble not hammering on anything less than 50 miles to practice pace and patience so a little "control" is in order. HIM next week so I will try and reel myself in and practice pace and nutrition. |

Expert 839 Portland, OR | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene I'm like Jared. 2nd IM, 2nd year at CDA. I had so much fun last year and the experience (from training through to the race) was so tremendous that I found myself in December getting really sad that I hadn't signed up for this year. Got a spot via Multisports.com and am happily training away feeling WAY more relaxed than I was at this time last year. My advice for 1st timers: Trust your training. Follow whatever plan you have chosen and don't second guess yourself. Also practice everything you can during these next 2 months so that when you get to the race it's like "oh yeah, I've done this a million times and it's no big deal" (this could be riding your bike in wet shorts, getting out of the water at the halfway mark and running around a cone on the shore, changing a tire, finding stuff in a special needs bag etc) I'm enjoying reliving some of my 1st time excitement with all you new people. HAVE FUN and I'll see you all in June! |

Veteran 272 Albuquerque, NM | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene I guess I should probably start training huh! Real answer is this will be my 2nd IM, first was IMAZ last year. Training is going really good, did the Bataan Death March Marathon last Sunday as a training run...tough course. Swimming is going good, but I need to start picking it up with the bike. I'm also one of the NM Outlaw crazies that Pilgrim mentioned. Looking forward to June 22nd. |

Veteran 133 Houston, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene Ok, I'll post! This will be my first Ironman. Did a half Ironman in 2006 (Steelhead). I must say that I am in denial right now about the full distance and only think about my workout each day, accomplishing the goal for just that day. Whenever I think about lining up at the swim start, I get a little queasy! So far though, I have really enjoyed the training and my colleagues' faces when I tell them my workout volumes/distances. I hope to meet all of you at CDA, as I haven't been able to convince anyone to come to the race with me and I don't want to eat every single meal by myself! Keep up the hard work, everyone, each day and each workout you complete will make you that much better on race day. |
