Ok, so Iv been swimming since December and I have already gone though 2 pairs of TYR jammers, got them off of swimoutlet.com, grabbag. I shower before and after then take the jammers off and rinse them. in about 8 weeks 2-3 swims a week I start noticing, mainly in the back that the Lycra is eating away, and if I wear them for another week people can start seeing my rear end. How long are these things suppose to last? am I doing something wrong? should I go with another brand? or does the YMCA put in enough chorine to the pool kill a horse?

This seems a little short on the lifespan of a suit but not too unusual for a lycra suit. You can't specify on the grabbag suits but it might be worth it to pay a little more for a polyester suit. I have had mine in the pool 5x a week for 9 months and it is just starting to show wear. Another thing that will wear the suit quickly is sitting on the rough surface of the pool edge.

I had the same issue, I found the higher the polyester the better they last, I've been on that pair now for about 7-8 months.

And yes, the Y puts in enough chlorine to kill two horses and anything a little kid can poop- sorry but its true.

I've had some TYR jammers since November and while they're not getting transparent yet they are getting kinda baggish [baggy/longish]. I think your pool might have a little higher chlorine count than mine. I've been doing a minimum 3 days/wk in the pool since I got mine.

I also use Tyr, as well as Speedo, jammers. The polyester ones do last longer, but it seems your primary problem is the amount of chlorine. I would purchase high polyester content jammers in the future and see if it helps.

Make sure you rinse them in cold water, not warm water in the shower.
