Decided to tri out the wet suit yesterday during our tri club swim practice and almost died. The indoor pool water was a warm temperature and I dehydrated extremely quickly. I had to get out of the the pool, slam some water and g-rade then grab something to eat while relaxing. For those of you who are needing to tri out a wet suit before your OWS either drink lots of water before hand or swim in a cooler pool. Also - fyi it was a full sleeve wet suit.

Oh the lessons I have had to learn the hard way....

1. body glide is essential
2. need to tape up the nips
3. no wet suit training in a warm pool

And you have to clean the neoprene very well. Chlorene and neoprene don't mix.

Sorry you had to learn the hard way....

I need body glide around the neck just as a precaution.  Never needed nip protection.  How warm is "warm"?  I practice a couple times in a warm pool and just had to take some breaks to flush out the warm water trapped in the suit and get some cooler water in.  Not too bad.

ALSO, as stated above.  Wash the suit well after a pool swim - just to save the lifespan of  your suit.

Agreed.  If you are going to train in a pool with a wetsuit either find a cold pool or take alot of breaks.

Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and it should be ok.

I am a diver, both commercial and recreational and have a few wetsuits, though I too just got a new tri suit.

If it becomes stinky, a little bit of simple green in a big rubbermaid trashcan and a soak will kill the odor, and then smell fresh like simple green.

I try to swim in the pool when they've just topped it off with fresh water. It's usally much cooler then. But certainly keep your sets short. I usually just end up swimming about a total of 800 yds before I have to rip it off and cool down. I usually jump back in the pool and finish my workout. It' actually quite refreshing! I might do this once every other month though so this is not a frequent thing.

I always do one session before a race in the pool just to get the suit wet and to iron out any wrinkles in the fit.  I always bring a bottle of water with me and stop every 500 for a drink.  I also have a two piece so I can jump up and down and get some water into the top as needed to cool down.
