Subject: Flint Area???

New to the website and looking for sum people to run, bike or swim with.  I live in Lapeer but if anyone is in a reasonable radius let me know.  I've done several sprint triathlons and am trying to train for an olympic distance this year, maybe Motor City.  If anyone is interested let me know.  Thanks.

I'm in laingsburg, not too far off.  I've been known to travel an hour on a weekly basis to train with people.....

Hey jparkerjr05,

I will be located in Flint starting April 4th. I'm a Kettering University student so I'll be working out in that area for the next 3 months.  I'm just starting my training, so maybe you'll be more help for me than anything. Let me know what you think. I'll have to see if I can get you into the school gym.

Hey, J, I'm in Rochester Hills....and train all the time, with some other folks, at stony, and ltf, and at bald mountain / holly / buncha other places north. Lemme know how you wanna train (distance, time, location, whatever), and it's a pretty good chance we're there.

I'm in Fenton.

When do you usually run/ride?  I'm mainly doing stuff after the kids go to bed (8pm), or starting soon, very early AM.  I always swim at lunchtime.  I live one mile from the Fenton track, which is brand new.  There are some nice training hills between my house and the track too.  Let me know what you are looking to do.

This is my first post. This will be my second season of racing. I did 3 races last year and am looking to do 3 sprints and an olympic this year. I live in Flint and am always looking for places to ride. It is hard around here because of the traffic. I would be interested in doing some riding. I swim at um-flint and just run in my neighborhood.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the responses.  Thats cool.  It looks like we have sum people in the area that would be interested in doing sum training.  I tried to compile the thoughts of everyone that responded.  I think it'd be cool to organize a run, bike and swim every week (or at least one event a week).  Maybe we could alternate locations or sumthing.  Read through the thoughts below and let me know what you guys think.

trixie-lives near owosso and is interested in training.

kudude-going to be in flint during the summer months and possibly training/working out at kettering univ.  Do they have an outdoor track or pool??

rkreuser-mentioned biking at holly, bald mtn, ltf, etc.  I would def be interested in riding once or twice a week.  Are the threads on this website the best way to get info??

matt3liv-runs, swims and bikes in fenton.  i usually don't get home from work until 5:30 in the summer so I usually don't run until at least 6:30 or after.  I could always change my schedule if we could get sum stuff organized.  I usually swim at the rec centre in lapeer-they have a really nice aquatic centre.

jgrindle16-lives in flint-swims at u of m flint and runs on own.  interested in doing sum riding.

So heres what i gathered:

People interested in lapeer, fenton, flint, owosso, oakland county

swimming locations: lapeer aquatic centre, u of m flint or open swimming at inland lakes.

running locations: anywhere

biking locations: road bike-anywhere mtn bike-bald mtn, holly or ltf

My name is Jesse and my email address is [email protected]  If this sounds like something you'd be interested in let me know.  Also, if you have any other ideas or input, throw them out there.  I'm just tryin to get something started.  You can email me or reply back to this thread.  Hope to hear bac!

Hello

I am new and could use some training help, I am in davison and am out of work at 3 in the afternoon.  I currently have a MTB, but am shopping this week for a new bike, maybe a Trek 1500 or 1600.  This depends on price on 2007 left overs.

We have an indoor pool and track. The track is suspended above the gymnasium floor and it's an 1/8 mile in length, but a nice setup.

I start school up on the 7th, I'll see what information I can get.

This is great, there are all kinds of new folks around here!

Hey Joe, I grew up in Davison.  Have you been there long?  I was there until '93.

What do you guys think about  getting together for a very easy ride sometime in the next two weeks?  Holly Rec Area has some decent pavement for a laid back easy ride.

I'm suggesting a laid back, nobody gets dropped, mountain bike friendly, ride of about an hour or so.  Possibly the weekend of April 19th?  I'd suggest this coming weekend, but that is already out.  Hopefully, weather will have broken by then...

What do you think?

I'm up for it, it will be a nice little exercise present to myself. My birthday is only two days earlier. If it's mountain bike friendly I'll bring the Fisher along.

Sounds good Andy.

I'm not thinking that it will be a MTB TRAIL ride though.  They'll probably still be too soft.

Who knows though?  If its dried out by then, I'll bring a couple bikes!

Well, there won't be a lack of opportunities this summer.  I'm sure you'll have a chance to meet up with the MI BT crew.

How is Davison for training?  Do folks give you any space on the roads?  The only training I've done around there was a trail run last fall.  It was on private property through, so I didn't hit the roads.

Hey guys,

Awesome news. Started day one of the Couch to Sprint 12 week program. Only after a few minutes of rest I feel freaking great! However the swim is going to be a little more difficult than I thought.

I did however run into another triathlete in training. He's just started swimming, for the first time!, about 3 months ago. Progress looks good for him and hopefully we'll have another Flint Triathlete joining the site pretty soon.

He would like to join us for our ride on the 19th. Let me know if anyone has a particular time and location yet, it would be nice to get it setup a little early. Thanks and happy training.

Andy

And I am up for training up that way as well - I am from north of Flint by 20-30 minutes, although I live in Farmington now.  I travel up that way often.  I miss training on the CRIM course and through the Miller mansions.

I am a senior II, mechanical engineering of course.

If you up for training in this area let me know. I'm sure the school would let you back in the recenter as well. I need work on just about everything, and from the looks of your race schedule your quite the seasoned vet.

I'll also be in your area when the summer time comes around, well Rochester Hills. I'm not sure of the distance.

What area did you grow up in? I'm from just north of Bay City so I'm quite familiar with the area?

I am from Chesaning - right outside of Birch Run.

Great job on the schooling - do you co-op in Rochester HIlls?  I work in Auburn Hills/Troy once again - I just cannot escape the area!

I have a lot to work on as well.  Maybe 2-3 years after graduation I got into running.  Just this year I am picking up tris.  I am putting my long distance runs on the back burner and switching gears - and that has been work!

Runnergirl-
Well I actually work for GM Metalfab in their Materials divisions in Pontiac, soon to be located in Warren. Currently I do a lot of work with aluminum. Only my apartment is located in Rochester Hills.

I'm not that big of a fan of Southeast Michigan, but it's starting to wear on me. I'm more of a small town guy.

The funny thing is I've run into about three other students that are training for their first tri this term. So apparently their popularity is growing, atleast at Kettering. I've tried to get more people to join the site, but I'm not sure how successful I've been. I'll keep pressing on.

Andy,

I'm in Clio, regularly do rides thru millington, down M15 and back across M57.  I do most of my running around town but wouldn't mind finding someone to train with here or there occasionally.

Ahhh Millington.  My old Stomping grounds.

Actually one of my suppliers is in Millington - Kaumagraph Flint Corporation (now called Advanced Decorative Systems or ADS)

Good luck Lon, and I read the article on you and your brothers in Open Air, as well as checked out your blog.  I am going to link your blogs and websites to my blog as I think that this is a great cause!
