Hello everyone,

I am new to triathlons as well as cycling, so if this is a dumb question I apologize in advance. My question to all of you experts out there is this:

Why do companies use aero tubes on TT bikes and not so much on Road bikes?

I have read that TT bikes are designed to go in a strait line fast with less emphasis on cornering, when Road bikes are designed to be ridden in groups and cornering is considered more in the design. But why not still make the road bike as aero as possible? There is really no reason I need to know this information, I am just curious.

Drafting obviates the need for an aero road bike.  That said, the Cervelo Soloist is an example of a road bike with some aero tubing.

You are starting to see more and more aero or deep section tubing on road bikes.  With the typical pro frame only weighing in around 1 kg, there is not a big concern about weight.  The UCI limit of 14.9 lbs. is very easily achievable with stock bikes off the shelf, so pros are looking for other advantages (aero tubing on road bikes, deep section wheels, etc.).

if you look at what most racers are riding now, like the trek madone and such. The carbon is laid out to where you can't find a round tube anywhere on the whole bike? I also have noticed that riding my tt bike with aero tubing, with a large side profile. If you get into a gusty cross wind it definitely could be a handful riding in a group trying to draft and work a pace line.
