Subject: What's Displayed on Your Garmin??

I'm sure this could probably be found under Search, but I don't have the time right now to Do a Search, so I just figured I'd start this thread and let it soak (Deadliest Catch reference) and re-visit after work.

Anyway, I just got a Garmin 305 and was wondering how many Data fields you choose to Display and what are they? Right now I have 4 and they are Time, Pace, HR, and Time of Day.

Edit: Just realized it could be different for bike/run, so break it down if you wish.

Thanks.

From top left, clockwise on my running screen:

Time, HR, Pace, Distance.

For me, knowing how far I ran is more important than the time of day....

My Biking screen has Time, HR, Speed, Distance.

Main 2 has Time, HR, Cadence, and I forget,

Main 1 has similar stuff, depending on what I'm doing!

Although i have 4 data fields displayed the only thing I really care to see at a glance is my h/r and time. All the rest I use after I've down loaded the data.

I change my run display often, depending on my workout. The bike display is static for the most part.

On the bike I have Speed, Time, HR and cadence. For the run I have Lap time, Pace, Distance, HR

I also have the extra display set to Time, Distance, Pace. Just three.

You can have Cadence and HR both working at the same time?

I'm pretty sure I also have this set up in one of my screens and the other data fields are speed and time, too.

"Searching for satellite" Way too long than I'd like to see.

That's my only complaint. Especially on cold mornings. It seems to take forever to lock in on a satellite. I thought it was because I live in the city, but that wouldn't be the problem for you.

I have mine displaying Elapsed time, avg. pace, current pace, and hr for the run.

I only wear it on the bike when I want to see what the elevation gain was for the ride, so I don't change it for the bike. I just don't pay attention to it.

i like to use avg lap pace vs just pace and then have it set to autosplit every mile. this seems to work best for me to pace myself as it doesnt jump all over the place ( sometimes my max speed is 3min/mi while other times il look down and it says im running at 15min/mi) do to slight quirks in the sattelite lock ect and gives me a better idea of the pace im actually going. as for it taking forever to lock i feel like the more often i use it in the same location the better it gets at locking. now i just turn it on and set it in my window sill while i get all my running clothes on and its ready by the time i am 98% of the time.

Time and distance.  That's it.

I had lap pace showing, but that got distracting.

Run: Time, distance, pace, HR

Bike: Cadence, speed, HR, distance

This thread made me realize I have my similar data displayed on both but displayed differently.  For whatever reason, I picked the locations of the data independent and am now accustomed to the data where I display it.

Mine too until I realized I could pick up a signal from inside my house by placing it underneath a skylight. Now I turn it on, place it under the skylight and then proceed to get ready. By the time I'm geared up, it's ready.

Run: Pace, Time, Distance, Heart Rate

Bike: Cadence, Time, Distance, Heart Rate

I'm thinking during a race to have it only display heart rate and cadence/heart rate on the bike.

I am running 4 displays and each screen is different so I can see it all if need be.

But for running the base screen is time of day, run time, hr and hr zone.

But basically when I look at it all I see is "HTFU".

I'm far sighted and I don't wear glasses when I train.  So the screen on the Forerunner is too small.  So I have mine set to flip between 3 screens.  Pace, Distance and HR/Duration.

My Edge 305 has a much bigger screen.  So the display on it is static.  Speed, Distance, Duration, HR.

For running:

Screen #1: Avg Pace, Lap Pace, HR, Distance

Screen #2: Total Time Elapsed, Pace, HR (I use this in races since avg pace can be affected by GPS burps)

For Biking

Screen #1: Cadence, Lap Speed, HR

Screen #2: HR, Avg Speed, Distance

QUESTION...

Sometimes when I turn the 305 on, it doesn't find a satellight and asks if I am inside.  I usually say NO, but today I hit the wrong button and said YES.

How do I get it to start searching for a satellight again?  I didn't have time to power off and power on again because it was only a few seconds before my race started.  Because it thought I was inside, it didn't record my route or my distance.  Not a huge deal for today, but is there a quick way to get it to search again?

Thanks!
