I decided on an Oly as my first triathlon. I have been very diligent in my training and I have come a long way, but maybe not far enough. The Oly is at the end of the month, but I am having seconds thoughts on this. I think I should be able to triple the Oly distances in training, but I didn’t want to increment too much on my distances in the 4 months I have been training for this. Maybe I should start with a sprint? I don’t why I have such jitters or reservations now? Any advice is most helpful.

Current training level

Bike = 50 miles
Run = 10
Swim = 2500 (longest straight swim is 1000)

Jitters are normal, I'm having them too, mostly b/c I really havent' been training on swim like i should. Given your #s you should be absolutely fine. Try to get some bricks in, that will help. I too am contemplating sprint vs. oly first. Which one are you doing? We moved from SF

With that mileage, I think you will be more than fine.
Jitters are totally normal. I had them for my first tri which was a 1/2 mile swim, 7 mile bike, 5k run, even shorter than normal sprint because of construction on the bike route.
YOU GOT IT

My first race was an Oly and my training distance was less than what your logs show. You'll definately finish and shouw do well in for time. Jitters are normal just trust in your training.

You have to be able to swim 1500 straight.

I would say you need to swim more.

You should be swimming 2k twice a week from now to taper.

It is important to set the tone during the swim.
Swim strong.

Well, I was going to joke that unless you're doing the Wildflower Oly, you should be fine... but then I see you're from SF, and it's probably likely that you ARE.

So, with a second, more critical pass over your blog... I'd say you're in good shape for an Oly, EVEN the Wildflower Oly. My only additional advice if that is the race you're doing... get some heat training in if you can. And, if it's at all possible, go down to the race site at least once and preview the course. I can describe it to you, and you can look at profiles, but sometime you need to just ride/run it yourself to quiet the nerves.

Edited to add:

For the record, the WF Oly was my first Oly too.  I'd done a season's worth of sprints the year before, and decided to kick it up a notch the next year.  It's a hard race.  Much harder than any other Olys I've done since.  But it's not impossible.  There are lots and lots of race reports in the archives on this site.  It may be worth looking them up, if you are in fact doing WF.

You will have no problem whatsoever.

A decent taper, adrenaline and just being in the race conditions give you a huge boost in terms of what you can accomplish on race day. So you no doubt are going to make lots of mistakes (forget how to swim properly and freak out in the water a bit, slow transitions, wear socks, too much gear on the bike, etc) but you will finish, and have fun doing it.

Congrats on the event! Expect to get hooked like the rest of us.

Wildflower Olympic was my first triathlon. Just get your swimming up to 1500m straight at least and work on hills on the bike and run. Try to to a practice triathlon in training with some friends where you swim-bike-run all in a row just to give you the confidence that you have done it before.

Good luck and have fun.

You definitely do nt need to be able to triple all the distances in training. Im not sure where you got that?

 You will do fine. Even if you havent swam 1500 continuous, I am sure you can. I almost never swim the race distance continuously. It doesnt really add a whole lot to training except the mental advantage of knowing you can do it.

I've an Oly in 3 weeks.  Jittery here too, had dreams about it all last night 'cause I shopped for new gear yesterday.

Everything I've learned so far says, follow training plan, and all will be well.
