Subject: RE: Seconds thoughts on Oly joeseal - 2008-04-13 5:04 PM I decided on an Oly as my first triathlon. I have been very diligent in my training and I have come a long way, but maybe not far enough. The Oly is at the end of the month, but I am having seconds thoughts on this. I think I should be able to triple the Oly distances in training, but I didn’t want to increment too much on my distances in the 4 months I have been training for this. Maybe I should start with a sprint? I don’t why I have such jitters or reservations now? Any advice is most helpful. Current training level Bike = 50 miles Run = 10 Swim = 2500 (longest straight swim is 1000) Well, I was going to joke that unless you're doing the Wildflower Oly, you should be fine... but then I see you're from SF, and it's probably likely that you ARE. So, with a second, more critical pass over your blog... I'd say you're in good shape for an Oly, EVEN the Wildflower Oly. My only additional advice if that is the race you're doing... get some heat training in if you can. And, if it's at all possible, go down to the race site at least once and preview the course. I can describe it to you, and you can look at profiles, but sometime you need to just ride/run it yourself to quiet the nerves. Edited to add: For the record, the WF Oly was my first Oly too. I'd done a season's worth of sprints the year before, and decided to kick it up a notch the next year. It's a hard race. Much harder than any other Olys I've done since. But it's not impossible. There are lots and lots of race reports in the archives on this site. It may be worth looking them up, if you are in fact doing WF. Edited by madkat 2008-04-13 10:19 PM
