Subject: Flint/Grand Blanc/Holly/Fenton area - Saturday April 19th ride/run

A couple weeks ago, I mentioned a beginner's style ride at Holly Rec or Seven Lakes.  Nice easy pace, nobody gets dropped, mtb friendly.  A few folks showed some interest. I lost track of who was interested and haven't been through the other threads to piece it together.

If you'd like to ride for an hour or so on Saturday morning, let me know.  I'm certainly no guru, but I'm willing to help out where I can.

We can do loops, so if you want to go longer, shorter, etc, its doable.  I'll be running a little afterwards too, if anyone wants to join in for that.

If you want in, let me know what time Saturday morning works best.  I'm kinda-sorta flexible.  Also, both are state parks, so an annual / daily permit is required.

thanks for the invite Matt. I'm still dealing with my IT band issues, so only swimming for me now.

Nole Runner - 2008-04-14 3:23 PM thanks for the invite Matt. I'm still dealing with my IT band issues, so only swimming for me now.

That's no fun.  I hope you get it cleared up and back out there soon.

I know that puppetmaster and nole runner are out.  Anyone else?

I'll keep this open through Wednesday.  If nothing comes of it, I'll make plans to head down to Kensington or Poto with the other group.

Hey Matt,

I've also become injured in just the last week and a half.  I'm hoping another week or so of rest will help me fully recover from this small injury.  So, I could not have biked at Holly lately.  However, I'm still interested in meeting sumtime.  I'll prob join the group at Stoney Creek in the next few weeks.  Keep me in mind when you try and plan meetings in the future.  Again, I'm from Lapeer.  I tend to travel once or twice a week to run or bike.  So I'll keep an eye of the treads here and you could always email me (which I check more often) at [email protected]

Hey guys,

Sorry I missed all the ride/run on saturday. I had a school event to go to and couldn't really miss it. We should plan something again. THanks

Andy,

Good to hear from you Andy.  I hope your training is coming along well.

I'm not going to have a traditional ride this weekend.  I'm going to be doing some baseline fitness testing on the bike.  Last weekend was a beautiful ride though!

Training is going pretty well. I'm now down to about 195lbs, first time under two hundred since highschool.

I think my swim is progessing slightly, tonight I was really focused on my catch and counting my strokes and not so worried about taking my next breath. Otherwise.....swimming is a pain in the butt. I'm more comfortable swimming with just my arms and a bouy than I am kicking. I seem to be faster too.

Andy, it sounds like you are developing your stroke.  Way to go!

Keeping those legs up can be a real challenge.  You probably know this, but just for the sake of hearing myself talk ... ... When I notice my legs dropping its usually a symptom of one of two things.  First, I'm not gliding very well, meaning I'm not keeping my extended arm straight out long enough to maintain horizontal balance.  Second, I'm lifting my head or shoulders to breath, instead of simply turning my head.

I really don't kick either.  Just a little to help maintain balance and to facilitate body rotation.
