So...I'm getting a LS Wet Suit as my first-ever wet suit (mostly because that's what I won...).

Just how warm will I get in this thing in the water in the summer? I'm looking forward to using it in my half iron this June, I'm just worried about getting too warm.

Or should this not even be a concern? I know it'll be perfect for my cold water tri next month...I just want to make sure I've made the right decision.

Thoughts?

(probably a dumb question, but the fact I'm actually going with a LS wetsuit is a pretty big deal to me.

I have a long-sleeved wetsuit and wear it at my races all summer, even though it can be quite hot.  It really depends on the water temperature, though.  Around here, they're not allowed if the water temp is higher than about 75 or so.

In the rare race where they were allowed and I wore it in temps that high, I was uncomfortably hot in it.  I have a very clear memory of every time I'd put my head in the water while swimming, of thinking "ahhhh... cool water..."

At the same races where I wear my LS wetsuit, there are more than plenty of other people wearing the same.  I wouldn't worry about it.

When you start to warm up, pull the top of the wetsuit, near the neck open a little to let cool water in. Just a little will cool you right back down.

They can get extremely warm if they water is hot.  But just like cold water everyone is different you might be okay.

If the water is warm enough for you to get hot in the suit the race is probably not wetsuit legal anyway.

Unless you are at the hairy limit...like Bermuda this past year. Water temp was right at 78 degrees. It got pretty warm in the wetsuit!

I'm sure its different for everyone, but at just about anything higher than 72, I consider going without a wetsuit. Thats plenty warm for some people, so if you really don't like being hot, you probably won't even use it at that race.

I really dislike being hot in a wetsuit as well but always wear mine where legal (with the exception of a sprint under 500 yards) as it makes me faster. Test wearing the wetsuit in warmer, wetsuit legal temps and try letting in a little water when you warm up - you will be surprised how much it will cool you down and you will still have the benefits of a wetsuit in your race.
