Subject: How I turned my cheap road bike into a Tri bike

I just want to share with you some pictures of my upgraded Trek1000 road bike into a "Tri" bike.

Here is the list of the upgrades I did. Any comments is welcomed, especially for suggestions on what I can do more on that. Probably I am going to change those poor aerobars.

  • Shimano "PD-7810" Dura Ace SPD-SL Pedals
  • Shimano Ultegra 3x10 full groupset with 12-27
  • Profile Design Alu seatpost Fast Forward 35mm
  • Selle Italia SLR T1
  • T3 Bioarms aerobars
  • Fulcrum Racing 3 wheels
You can imagine that the frame' value is less than half of the resting parts together.

Nice. I'm in a similar boat.

I have a Raleigh Grand Sport and upgraded the wheels(Neuvations) and tires(Michelin Pro 2) with a used but in good
condition dura-ace cassette. I added a new seat, aeorbars, and forward seat post and now I've spent more on the upgrades
than I did the entire bike last year.

How has that seat post been for you? I've been considering it, but I didn't know if it was a gimmick.

I was wondering about the seat post also.

I have a similar set up on my trainer bike

The other configuration (road bike) picture is in my album.  But, I love this seatpost.  I can put it on and the aero bars and I have a tri bike setup on the trainer.  If I didn't have the Cervelo, I'd definitely race triathlons this way.

How is that setup on the road?  On the trainer there's no stability issues.  My birthday is coming up and my wife is looking for hints.

I rode my cannondale like that for 2 years one thing I would recommend is to flip your stem up= no neg. Too much weight on the front wheel with it pointing down.

It is really great. Since I have it, I can feel the difference on aero position and no backpain anymore. I push much better on pedals too.

There is a carbon version but there is no reason to spend more money for few hundreds grams less on a bike like mine.

The stem is the aluminum piece that holds your handlebars and connects them to the front forks. The part can be installed upside down. Right now yours points down. If you flip it over it will point up. If you need more info on how to do this, PM me.
