Training for my HIM (ack, only 14 days away!) in Cedarville, NJ...of course, no swimming in the lake until race day, but I want to do one good OWS before the race...any suggestions on lakes that allow this in the area?

I posted this on the NJ forum, but then realized, I might get a better response in NY...can I swim at Harriman? Or is it closed (or perhaps too darn cold)?

Cold for sure, unfortunately the lakes at Harriman don't officially open until Memorial Day. Not aware of anywhere that opens before then. Always a challenge w/ these early season races. Goood luck!

This may not work for you, but the CIBBOWS group does ows at coney island every saturday and sunday starting in may and going until november.

here's their website.

If you go to Harriman, go a little further north and you could get to the Hudson river.  Not sure how safe it is, but if you go to the boat dock on West Point, you could swim up along the shore and back.

Thanks for the advice--it wasn't too bad, 64 degrees. A tad chilly, and I definitely could have benefitted from using a wetsuit, as far as buoyancy was concerned, but i maintained a steady 1:50/100 yard pace, so I'm ok with it. Thanks for the tips!
