Hello all,

I am very new to this forum and to the world of Triathlons at that.

In high school I played football and through shop put and discus on the track team. Needless to say I have never been a small person. Plus after high school I didn't take much interest in much physical activity. So I have been packing on the pounds for the last 10 years.

At my heaviest I was at 275. I am now down to 265, and plan to keep going.

What started all of this for me is my my son who is now a year and a half old and my daughter that will be born at the end of the year (our little Christmas baby!) I want to be able to play with them and chase them around and right now I can't do that since I get so wore out with-in a couple of minutes of playing with him.

I have set a goal for myself to be in good enough shape that I can enter and finish my first Triathlon by July 4th of 2009. After seeing all of y'all before and during photos y'all have given me the motivation to keep going and stick with this, not only for me but for my family as well.

I just want to say congratulations to all of you and keep up this great work and thank you all for making this a great forum for all of us beginners.

Peace,

Chris

So, considering the new year is just around the corner, I thought it was time to resurrect this thread.  I've been stalled w/ my weight loss for a long time, but, I need a boost to remind myself that I have done a considerable amount of work, and that I'm way better off then when I started.

Pic#1 is December 2002.  Pic#2 is December 2008

Sorry, had to do my before and after photo's in two replies... Couldn't get to actual saved files so I copy/pasted them...

Anyhow, my story is, that the top link is of me at day one (Jan 7, 2008) of my P90 challenge, and as you'll see, I had made excellent progress throughout the 90 days. I've sinced moved on to P90X and unfortunately have gained a few of the lb-'dage back, but not much. Right now I'm trying to maintain, and as soon as school is over (sometime in march) I'll try to get back to some serious training. This should include a lot of tri training, as it took as much just to get to the 'after' photo. Congrats to everyone else who is accomplishing their dreams/goals. And to those, who are working on them, Congrats to you too! It takes a lot to get fed up with where we are in life, and then to move beyond the point of just _itching about it.

Well, I was fighting a losing battle. Back in 2002 I had 2 discs removed with rods and screws placed in their stead, as well as cadavre bone. I had always been pretty athletic, but when that accident hit me, it was like a Mac truck. It took me nearly 5 yrs to get fed up enough of my slow, lazy butt who was drugged up with every conceivable prescription you could think of, and I wasn't getting any better from them... I had had enough! I stopped seeing my dr's, stopped taking any of the medication, and just worked really hard to regain balance, flexibility and strength. Right now I still have some pain, and I don't think it's going to go away. In fact it might get worse the older I get. But for now I feel a lot better. I've shed the use of my cane. I run, walk, swim, bike, lift weights, laugh, cry... I feel like I've regained something that was taken from me, my freedom. I also had to relize that it wasn't any one person who was at fault. It was a matter of circumstance, and I needed to stop blaming everybody else, and start putting responsibility on myself.
My training has taken me to the point of x3/wk (4mi run, 12mi bi, and some liesurly swimming), which helped me shed the first 10 of 30 lbs. I then modified to some strength training 6 days/wk and a run (2.5 mi+) ever other day, to lose the last 20. Since regaining my senses, I went back to school (which was something else that got screwed up for me, and it's been a 10 yr nightmare in the making) and have been carrying a 4.0 ever since. Since being in school, I've had to restrict the training and have gained 10 lbs of it back. But right now I'm on X-mas break, so I have a little over a month to vigorously try and salvage what little metabolism I have left, and it's tough. All in all, I'm happy where I am, though I wish I would stop hitting the fridge to curb stress. But I definately feel tons better than where I was 6 yrs ago.

I plan on taking pics in about a week or so (bad, bad weekend coming up, friends in town, lots of drinking and eating and then a concert Monday night) and then plan on following my progress to IMKY next August. NEED!!! to lose a good 25-40 pounds to be where I want on raceday.

Okay guys... Here I come..... I hope everybody can see the pics....

This is me at 186lbs in December 2007. In January 2008 I started my weightloss journey with healthy eating habits and a lot of exercise.

And this is a picture from today at 120lbs.

I am done with my weightloss journey, but not done living a healthy liftstyle.... That I am planning on doing for the rest of my life.

Good luck to everybody tri'ing for weightloss..... Nobody says that it is going to be easy, but it will be all worth it in the end!
