Subject: Strength Training Excerises Help!!!

The past week i have focused on the running and biking and swimming to know where im at in my progress towards entering a triathlon as well i have been running 5k runs every weekend for about a month.

I was just curious about trying to put some weight lifting into my plan and was wondering what would be better to work on, id like to work on my upper body mainly as well as a little toning in the legs. If any one has some good ideas on workouts or excerises to increase muscle in those area's it would be greatly appriecaited. I know i need to do leg press's to help my legs with running hills.

You need to focus on a total body balanced weight plan. Your legs do not get the strength training they need from running and biking alone. Doing 2 sets of 10-12 reps on every muscle in the body will do wonders for injury prevention and strength late in the race. Just lift 2- 3 times per week.

I'm a big crossfit fan. It's a good, balanced exercise that won't bulk you up too much. It compliments tri training well.

Keep it simple:

Some type of press: bench press or military press

Some type of "pull:" pull ups, pulldowns, or rows.

A lower body movement: squat or deadlift, but if you're not comfortable with those lifts, some type of lunge movement.

Add an ab exercise to finish things off.

That's really all you need.
