Just curious what the highest cadence number you've seen on your bike, and how long it was for (fleeting moment, 10 sec, etc). And were you on the trainer, or on the road?

119

A group ride was picking up the pace and I didn't have the leg strength to keep up, so I took the effort from my lungs instead.

Does indoor cycling count? I'm sure that if people included their Spinning program numbers, they would be pretty high up there

Ive hit upwards of 130 on my road bike outside... but thats just doing a very short sprint. On a spinner bike, they can get upwards of 150 or more.

129 yesterday (with no bouncing mind you) on the way to meet for the group ride.  But in the past I've gotten up to 150 or so just f'ing around .....

I'm regularly in the 110 - 115 range naturally.

Fixed grear 42x16....34.5 mph...according to analytic cycling....166. This was for a fleeting moment at the bottom of a big hill. I looked like a cartoon roadrunner. I have gone a couple of  miles at 25mph in the same gear...121 rpm. That was very tiring.

Cadence From Speed

Data Parameters
Speed 34.5 mph
Chainring Teeth 42. teeth
Cog Teeth 16. teeth
Wheel Diameter 0.674 m
Cadence 166. rev/min

120 somewhat regularly when chasing down people on saturday morning group rides.  Sustained for several minutes at least.

I know I've hit higher riding down hills on my fixie, but I have no computer, so no idea of what speed I was even going.  It felt a hell of a lot higher then 120 though

On a road bike outside I've pushed it barely over 150 a few times but only for a few seconds. That's after pushing my cadence 4 times a day during commute rides for a few weeks last year. I've also done rides trying to hold my rpm over 100 for an hour and a half, and mostly succeeding. Lately I've been working more on pushing hard at 80 to 100 though, so my spinning may have fallen off.

I've had my fixie at 38.9mph, and Sheldon Brown (rip) says that with my 48/16 and 700x23 tires, that's 165rpm.

I sat in utter disbelief watching the spin instructor during a sprint a few months ago. It didn't seem possible as I was all out, just short of bouncing and was WAAAAY slower than her. The next sprint I skipped and just watched and counted her cadence, well, as best I could. 15 seconds/40 revolutions...Yes, as in 160 rpm. I asked her if that was about right and she said yes. Should mention she races for a team out of NC....I've ridden with her on the road and she can knock it out at 27 for a while and can clip 30 for a not so short period...very impressive.

No cadence meter on my track bike... actually on any of my bikes now, but usually have a max around 48km/hr - 49km/hr. I have a 48/16 and 700x23 tires and 165mm crank, so whatever cadence that is.

I looked on Sheldon brown and can only find gear ratios up to 120rpm. It appears that I am pedalling more than 120rpm since that is only 45.6km/hr. I'm sure I could do some math with gear ratios and such, but I don't want to. So where are you finding the rpm from the speed, that could be quite useful to me.

I found the calculator, http://software.bareknucklebrigade.com/rabbit.applet.html

My speed is 130rpm.

Yeah...I had to do some math...

120rpm/28.1mph = xrpm/38.9mph

x=166rpm

From my last sprint and my last TT I looked at my power meter files..I hit 143 RPMs a few times lots of times in the 120's.

I have naturally high cadence normal is 97-98 often in races I'm in low 100's.

I did a few sets of 5' @ 110+ on my rollers the other night. At the end of the last one, I held 120 for about 10". I've never really tried for max cadence on the road, but I've seen 130+ drag racing cars at stoplights during my commute.

I think it's cheating to count the downhill on a fixie. Really, you don't have much choice.

I just figured out how Rick can make his ultralight bike lighter - take of the big chainring. At those cadences, you really don't need it.

Holy crap, I bounce when I hit 110 rpm's. I seriously cannot imagine 130 or 150 rpm's.

My average cadence is typically around 100 - 105, but I spend a good bit of time in the 110 range.

Typically in races I will be in the 23 - 25 mph range.  Training, around 20 - 22.

I come close to realistically spinning out my 53/11 on some downhills pushing over 40 mph ....... Tongue out

(I'm really debating putting on a 54 or 55 - as soon as I get back on the bike more regularly of coruse.)

According to today's exchange rate, 130CN = 128.09US.

I suggest less back bacon and Molson. Or possibly more Molson.
