Subject: SI Joint Dysfunction. Anyone? Anyone?
Ok, so Dr. diagnosed SI joint dysfunction after a completely normal MRI. I think he's probably right (originally thought compartment syndrome b/c I had that before but I digress.)

He's an ortho and essentially had NO recommendations except to try "nontraditional" treatments. I've been to a chiro 2x for adjustment and some ART. Seems to help a bit. Has anyone else had this? What did you do? ANyone do acupuncture? Use a belt/taping?

Basically my lower left back has a pain in it and then my left calf hurts, like a deep ache while running that shoots up to my back.
Thanks in advance,
Beth

I have also struggled with this. In my case , my chiropractor was able to fix me up. It took way more than 2 visits, however. I went twice a week for several weeks for ART and adjustments. I only pop in once in a while now , for whatever body part happens to hurt and he will adjust me if he thinks its needed. Funny thing is, I was never a believer in chiro until I started training seriously!

My other therapist had used accupuncture, but the relief was only temporary.

I have also worked diligently on stretching my hip flexors using Yin yoga, also on the advice of my wonderful chiro. He will also do ART on that area and it also helped with the SI pain.

Hope this helps and Good Luck. It will get better, but it might take some time and $$$ to fix it!

I was never in pain when I ran, so I never stopped. I don't do a whole lot of weekly volume though, I have only been running for a year or so. I keep it to about 24k a week, not sure what this is in miles!

The other thing that might help, though not a quick fix is to really work on your core. I use the "hard core" series found on BT and can honestly say it helps to ward off problems.

I started training for tris after my wakeup call of an SI joint disfunction.   I went salsa dancing with my hot boyfriend and woke up the next day in terrible pain!   I was diagnosed and given a cortizon injection and sent to PT where I had some minor chiropractic work but mostly did core work like crazy.  Stil in pain, I signed up for a tri and worked on lifestyle changing.   I am kinda back in the same place but trying.....

I call it Salsa Butt syndrome.
