Subject: I'm sick....but feeling guilty about not training
I've been out with a bad cold or something since last Wed. Bad sore throat, cough, extremely tired...
I took off wed, thurs and fri and by Sat was feeling a ton better. Of course I was feeling guilty that I took off two days (Friday is normally my off day) so of course I went back full force on Sat. and Sun (I'm training for IMWI, my first) So...by Sunday afternoon I'm feeling like crap again. Today, Monday I'm even worse.
How do people handle this. I try to be patient, but I have to fight the feeling that I'm going to loose everything I've gained. I know this is not rational (but hey, if you are signed up for an IM are you a rational thinking person to begin with? )
Some words of wisdom from those who've come before me.

Thanks

My trainer gave me the OK train while sick but at a low intensity and lower volume that the plan called for. Basically, whatever I felt I could handle. This kept me from feeling too guilty. You won't 'lose everything you've gained' and it's not like going full force is going to help you heal.

This is only one bump in the long road to Moo so hang in there!

It's always a hard one to judge.  You know your own body better than anyone else.  As a general rule of thumb: if I feel crap, i.e.: I have a sore head (fever ish), a saw throat etc... then I won't train, but if it feels a bit more like a niggly sore throat or cough etc... then I'll train.

I did the exact same thing - got sick Wed, took Thurs and Fri off, felt better Sat so I did some biking and weights.  Then I felt like crap for the next day and a half.

Your body wants to rest and get over the illness.  Let it.

Most people say if its in your head (ie headache or sinus) you can train but to stop once it goes to your chest.  I sometimes feel the same 'guilt' when I do not train. I feel like I should be doing something.

Thanks for all the comments. It does help.
This is a real #$!@ of a cold. It has progressed from my throat to now my sinus and ears. Ears are completely blocked, nose running like a faucet, plus I am sooooo tired. Swimming and running are out, so I have my bike on the trainer and yesterday did just an easy spin (kleenex kept handy) and today I went for an hour walk with my dog.
I realize I need to listen to my body and get healthy before I can return back to normal training. The hard part for me, based on past experience, is that as soon as I begin to feel a little better, I over do it.

I guess I'm just overly concerned since this is my first time training for an IM. I worry about every little thing and it begins to erode my confidence. Plus, I was feeling great before this happened.
But, I do have time, so my mantra will be... must be patient... must be patient.
