Subject: New HED 3 Clincher & Disc Wheel Cover Ordered
I just ordered a new trispoke for the front and wheel cover disc for the back today.
I had a couple of questions....
(1) Do I need rim tape for the front?
(2) Do I need the crack pipe to air up the front?
(3) Do I need the crack pipe to air up the rear once the cover is on?
(4) Do I just buy a regular wheel magnet and epoxy it to the front?
(5) Anything else I should know?

Thanks in advance!!!!

1. No
2. &3. Depends on your pump head
4. Yes, or you can buy a kit from Cateye.
5. The valve stem opening on the HED goes on the right (drivetrain) side.

Yes you should buy a crack pipe and smoke it religiously.

By smoke it religiously, I mean I have no idea if that is some bike term I have never heard of.

If you can find a smaller pump head go with it.  Crack pipes work but are just another piece of equipment you have to rely on that can possibly get lost.

I did put some tape over the serial #'s engraved on the inside of my Hed#.  They seemed a little rough and I just didn't want to take the chances on the tube.

You might have to adjust the position of the sensor on the fork so it will be close enough to "see" the magnet on the straight spokes of the HED.  Near the hub the narrow HED is a lot farther away from the fork than the dished or angled spokes of a conventional wheel.

I wanted mine to work with either my conventional Shimano spoked wheel or my HED, so I had to move the sensor up the fork where the angle of the fork brought it closer to both wheels.  Didn't glue it on until I found a position that worked for both wheels.

Little air compressors are a good investment for disc and H3 wheels. That way, you dont have to hold the pipe on with one hand and try to pump with the other.

I read on the HED website that some people put the magnet in the recessed area when the valve stem is. This makes the rim more aero, then I could tape over the opening.

Anyone done this???

If so, any special magnet.

...HED site says use a Rare Earth Magnet. I bought one from Radio Shack, but it must be two small....computer still did not recognize it.
