Subject: Coconut water
I've recently become quite aware of what I'm putting in my body. I won't drink most sports drinks anymore because of the additives, HFCS, etc. The natual food store I shop at recommended Coconut water because it has naturally occuring potassium and electrolytes in it. It has about 50 calories per serving, so you get a few carbs as well.

Anyone use it?

Taste test it first! I have some friends that use it and swear by it. I tried it, but for me, it turned my stomach. This is probably a personal issue with my stomach. BUT, I think you are looking at coconut water for all the right reasons. I hope it works out for you.

Like you said good source of potassium.
A protein/carb ratio of about 4:1 and a little bit of fat (mostly saturated).  THis is somewhat close to dirnks like Perpetium and such.
But what would do me in is the fiber.  I couldn't take in that much fiber and still run for long.  Also, and this is just me, that's too much sodium.  If I take in that much sodium in a sports drink I definitely have problens.  But it's about what Gatorade End has, but I have problems with that too.  Also I couldn't find a breakdown of the sugars in it.  If it's high in fructose I can't digest it while running.  Again this is an individual thing, many sports drinks are high in fructose and many people don't have a problem with it.

I love that it's 100% all natural! I feel like Mother Nature did a great job of leaving faboulous, nutritionally complete things on this planet for us. We do too much to alter it.

Natural coconut water (as in fresh ones in a coconut) is sterile. You can use it as an IV! Yes, one of nature's magical creation. Sipping a chilled coconut water (in a young coconut) on a tropical sandy beach is awesome.

I tried the tetrapaks coconut water (from Brazil) that I purchased from Whole Foods. Quite delicious. You have to chill it really cold.

This is easily answered by a tropical area native.  Here I come to save the day....!!!!

I grew up in the island of Puerto Rico and must say that coconut water is almost an integral part of the diet (especially pennyless surfers like I was then).  I did hear a lot of stories about tourists trying it and not being able to hold it, but the majority of the people loved it.

It is best if served chilled, I also had the tetra-pak and it wasn't chilled: not good. Now, a chilled coconut, or "coco frio" is the most awesome natural beverage you've ever tasted. I suggest you get it freshly cut, meanong, coconut with skin, not the brown center at the supermarket - i've not tried those.

By the way, there are plenty of Triathletes and triathlons in P.Rico, its currency is the USD and it's cheaper to fly and stay than in Hawaii. Ride your own bike to El Yunque, ferry your way to Culebra and rent a Jeep there... I could go on, but this is about coconut water.

Cheers!
