Anyone else really worried about the water being very cold June 21st?

No not at all really. In fact I was in Guelph Lake by this time last year....also did the Lakeside event in early June last year and it was fine. Used my wet suit in Guelph Lake in May last year but not Lakeside. It has been a rather cooler spring though. It will just make us go faster!

I think it should be Ok by June 21. I did however rent a wet suit for the Springside tri on June 8.

Lake Erie is fine by late june, but I don't know about smaller lakes.  I have a tri on may 31st, and a wetsuit is a must.

Guelph should be fine, but Milton this weekend is going to be painful.

I'm doing Lakeside this weekend and decided to try a practice swim there this past weekend and I don't have a wetsuit. It was DAMN COLD!!!!!!!!1 I think I was close to getting hypothermia. I bought a cheap shortie surfsuit from costco today and I hope that helps because I could barely even swim at Lakeside.

Thanks for letting us know the water temp at Lakeside. I was wondering about it because I am doing the event this weekend too. I was thinking maybe I wouldn't need my wetsuit with all the warm weather ahead this week but maybe I should rethink that. Definitely bring it along. It's been a strange season.....last year I was in open water a few times by now.

Good luck at Lakeside and thanks again for the water update! Good to know!

no problem! definatley wear your wetsuit, hopefully it'll warm up a bit this week with the forecast but it's still gonna be damn cold. I wish I had a wetsuit other then a cheap shortie costco one.

Just posted on the website.......water is around 66 degrees and expected to be around 70 by the weekend if we get the humidity they are saying. Gonna be a hot sticky one but can't complain......wetsuits are recommended still...either way going to be a good race....hot or cold! Good luck!

Thanks alot guys! I'm gonna get in another OWS in the wetsuit in a few minutes (although with this heat I don't know If I really need a wetsuit). I'm pretty nervous for my first race just because I havent swam with so many people all at once. Good luck to you too!

Did anyone wear their wetsuit at Lakeside this past weekend? I took mine but felt I didn't need it when they said it was 72 degrees. Alot of people wore them. I thought the water was absolutely beautiful without the wetsuit. It was a great race......hot weather but very enjoyable for my first tri of the season. Anyone from here doing Guelph Lake 1 on June 21/22? I'm doing the Sprint Tri on Saturday 21st. I love Guelph's venue and it's close to home.

EWWWW!!! Swam in Fanshawe lake???? Shudder...

I did lakeside once. And the pond is so small that they didn't permit wetsuits. The weather lately might do the same this year. And if the sun was beating down as much this time, you might wish it was cold.

GL1... never tri'ed it.

My bet is that GL will be about 73*F. Mind you I'm doing the sprint Du now so I think I might skip on the wetsuit. lol.

I swam in Guelph Lake this morning and although it was quite cold getting in at first, it was nice after used to it. I had my wetsuit in the van but choose not to use it. Likely won't next week for the Sprint event. It did feel somewhat colder than Lakeside last weekend. Felt good to get in.

Also did the sprint bike route this past Thursday....I did the sprint last year but I try to do the route ahead of an event if I can. It had the same bumpy rough patches but overall it was good.

Let's hope for some decent...not wet or too humid weather!

Ok....the weather is so very strange this year. Walked out of the house this morning and it was 10 or 11 degrees. I kept thinking about the water at Guelph Lake this Saturday and air temps....a few more days and we'll know I guess how cold or warm the water will be to race in.

Good luck to all racing this Saturday and Sunday in Guelph! See you out there!
