I've never used my HMR in a race as I've never done a race. Saturday I am doing a Sprint and wanted to use it.  Not sure what setting to put it on, certainly don't want to spend time fiddling with it like I sometimes do in practice. I guess I'll put it in bike mode and that should work for the run too. Do others use these in races?

Not certain on the 405, but on my 305 I use autosport mode for races (and brick traniing sessions).  I setup to sports, i.e. bike and run with transitions turned on.  Then you simply press 'start' at the beginning, 'lap' at start and end of transition and then 'stop' at the end.  That way the predefined screens are displayed for each sport and I get averages broken down by sport.  Obviously an average accross runnning and bike aren't particularly useful.

The 405 doesn't have that feature. When I got it I thought it was everything the 305 is and more but thats not the case.

Yeah, that was a major drawback that was immediately identified upon the release of the 405. Really, with the lack of a multisport mode and shorter battery life, I can't see where the 405 is much of an improvement over the 305, or even the 301 for that matter.

I think the thing to remeber is we as triathletes are just small fish.  The big fish is the running market.  For them there is no need for multisport mode or swimable (waterproof).  That is probably why it's not there.
