I plan on attending the Thursday CGI OWS in Wenonah (once my Thursday nights are free) but am wondering about other places to swim in the greater Delaware Valley. I did an illegal swim in the Schuylkill at the Gladwyn boat ramp area over the weekend and though it wasn't too bad I don't really want to risk getting a citation again. This was my first OWS with a wet suit, and as a training swim. I've swum for fun in lakes, rivers, creeks, oceans, bays, etc all my life so I have no problem swimming in open water but it was kind of tough to keep swimming non-stop for so long. All my swim training so far has been in the pool so I now see how vitally important OWS's are. Any thoughts?

There is a (not free) OWS 'clinic' three times a year at Lake Nockamixon where the Steelman is run. One on June 14 I believe. For the life of me I can't find the link to sign up but I remember from last year being able to sign up that morning.

If anyone has info on this, please post?

p.s. if you do the Wenonah swim, do yourself a favor and shower off at the facilities afterwards. That water stinks something fierce.

It should take you about 1 hr, especially during rush hour....maybe longer for that reason!

I've done a few OWS at Dutch Springs in Bethlehem, PA. The water is amazingly clear and its only $20 to swim for the day in the peak season.  Wetsuits are a requirement since the water temperature is cold.  This is probably an hour drive from the Philadelphia area but well worth the trip.

I swim in the Delaware River near Stockton NJ.  I believe we go somewhere between Stockton and Frenchtown.  It's nice practice for OWS.  I don't think it's illegal to swim there.  I've never gotten in trouble for it *knock on wood*.
