8 | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in Okay . . . I think. The onset of heat and humidity gave me a reality check the last few weeks. This is my first one and I don't have the cheddar for a personal coach so I'm not quite sure how I am doing. I'm just putting in the hours, miles, eating well, gym time, and trying to keep the rest of my life in order.
Any one else making IMKY their first? |

Veteran 422 St. Louis | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in It will be my first as well. Everything was going wonderfully until my leg started hurting after my OLY two weekends ago. I can't run without pain, so I'm sticking to swimming and biking. I see the doctor on Monday. Doing my first Century tomorrow and I'm nervous because of my leg. It doesn't hurt when I ride, so hopefully I'll be okay. If it starts to hurt, I may scrap the ride. Kansas 70.3 is in two weeks |

Champion 10471 Dallas, TX | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in May was a month! HA! I started out with a race walking clinic. Interesting stuff. Although I won't be able to train to get the proper form to do that for 26.2 miles. So I'll stick with my 5 minute walk/2 minute run combo. I was going strong and got in my second century (ever- but 1st one for IM training) on May 17th. Did a 20 minute walk/run afterwards as well. The day after the century I walked/ran 14 miles. And that night my left knee was swollen and I couldn't bend it on Monday. BAD! So I took it easy last week and this week I've been nursing it. Still not 100%, and I'm not sure what's wrong with it. I'm just going to train and see what happens. This month I really showed myself what I got in me! I actually woke up at 5:30 AM multiple times a week... I even got up to run in the morning. I tripled my swim distance from last month as well. I've had to do a lot of things out of my comfort zone (aka: sleeping in), but I've done. One workout at a time. |

Champion 8540 the colony texas | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in It's my first also... This was a good month for me,, looking at my actual vs planned calendar I only was off a 30-40 min on my swim and an hour with change on running but over on my biking... I'm sure with the heat hitting triple digits this month will add another challenge to things.. but so far no aches/pains and I'm having some fun |

Veteran 172 Mansfield, TX | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in BAD month for me and I feel really guilty. I had one sick week and 1 vacation week. Family pressures have weighed on me. Next weekend I have my 1st HIM and am determined to be militant about my training |

Expert 924 Louisville, KY | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in This will be my first as well. Training is going well so far. The hardest part is just planning my days. I'm constantly juggling something. June is the start of the "BIG" volume for me, so things are about to get interesting. |

Master 1376 Chicago | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in My first as well. Training is going well. I have some hip pain right now, I think it may be piriformis, that is making running painful. I'm having it checked out on Tuesday. Other than that, I've been able to stick to the plan fairly well. |

Champion 10154 Alabama | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in Hmmm, 11 weeks till taper....sound like IMKY is just around the corner! Today was the first really hot/humid day of the season here. I forgot how tough it is to run in the heat and humidity. I guess I got spoiled with the long spring we had. ~Mike |

New user 64 Delaware | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in 1st one as well. Did a HIM on May 4 but have been slack on the biking due to some road racing obligations I had. That will change this weekend as the Sunday long bikes will begin. I have a set schedule for the rest of the summer which I hope to stick with. Good luck to all and stay healthy!!!! |

Veteran 235 Independence, KY | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in 1st timer here. May was a mixed month for me. I think I totally lost my motivation 2 weeks ago and started missing workouts more frequently. I'm not sure what happened but I picked it back up and feel pretty good. I did my longest 'run' ever yesterday. It was a PR for a half marathon for my by 27 minutes. I had a wakeup call on a bike ride with some others about a week ago. I need to hit the bike hard and on hills to get where I want to be before the race. I'm amazed at how it gets much easier to do longer workouts and recover afterwards. I guess that's all part of the game.

May was pretty good, making up for a lackluster April (work commitments got in the way). This month, did my first 4000m continuous swim, got my first 100-miler in (and more importantly recovered almost immediately), and (perhaps not-so-wisely) got in a 22-mile hill run last Saturday (which has taken me a bit longer to recover from than expected). Looking forward to building up even more next month. |

Veteran 248 Mooretown, Ontario Canada | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in This will be my first IM also. May wasn't the greatest month for me. I let my fishing holidays take too much of my time away from training. The last week was very good, trying to make up for it. Did my first century ride, a few bricks and even a bike/run/swim workout last night. June and July will be big months for me, and I already told Mrs Fishie that I'll see her Sept 1st, and not to worry about me between now and then. Getting excited, have a long course tri on the 14th, which will either show me how unprepared I am, or be a good confidence builder. My swim volume sucks, but so does my pools schedule. I'm anxiously awaiting the water to warm up so I can get some OWS in on my own schedule. FishHog |

Member 68 | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in Training is going well for me. putting up some good times in the past couple of races. last week I beat my 5k pr by 45 seconds and I just picked up my trek ttx 9.0 on tuesday and rode a 20 mile time trial with a 22 mph average (ok, so it was flat and there was no wind) but being my first ironman, I think Im on the right track. guess Ill find out on race day. |

Extreme Veteran 436 | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in 1st timer here also, this was a good month. I still haven't missed a workout from the 20 wk plan. I certainly am looking forward to next weeks recovery week and a HIM on next sunday. I still haven't had a chance to get in any real hill training so I better get on the ball for that. Overall things are good here. |

Extreme Veteran 563 Pekin, IL | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in IM newbie here as well. May was good for me. Consistant training, just now getting into longer sessions, but I've been following the plan and staying consistant. (Consistant is a key word for me). I ordered an Adamo saddle and am waiting for it's arrival. I'll get fitted when it comes and hopefully get a little more comfy on the bike. 4 weeks until my 1/2 IM, then it's full bore for IMKY. My family leaves for summer camp in 3 weeks, I'll miss them greatly, but it will give me more time for training.

Veteran 161 West Chester, OH | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in First here. May started off great and then the travel hit. My motivation tanked and I still have two weeks before I am back home and on a regular schedule again. It doesn't help that hurricane season just started and the majority of my workouts are going to involve at least some amount of bad weather. Is that enough whining?? I know, I need to seriously HTFU. I'm still excited as hell about race day and I can't wait to experience everything with my family and fellow BT'ers. I just need to start plugging away again and get some more miles behind me. |

Champion 10154 Alabama | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in May was good training month for me but June could be a major train weck. I'm heading up to Chicago later this week for a wedding and later this month we're heading to HI for 10 days. We're taking a curise....which will likely be 7 days of no-holds-barred eating! ~Mike |

Had to take about 2 weeks off of running due to some issues with my left foot. It still hurts when I run, but I have been able to get my workouts in this past week for the first time in awhile. Pay attention to you body folks ... pushing through the pain is a no no. You gotta at least make it to the starting line in one piece. Take the time and focus on other sports to relieve whatever pains you are feeling. |
