Subject: are there OWS or clinics in Eugene?

 Hi,

a newbie here. i need to get in some open water practice swims before my first ever sprint in august. i saw the salem tri-club has them but does anyone know if there any in the eugene/springfield area that could deal with my inexperience? i don't want to cramp anyone's style but i would love the feedback, critiques and advice more experienced folks could give.

thanks!

Call Collins Cycle shop and get on their triathlon email mailing list -- that's where I heard about an OWS clinic...held a couple weeks ago. There are also 2 swim/triathlon coaches in Eugene who give private lessons and will give you an OWS lesson if you want to go that route.

Gina Dhom is the name of the swim coach who coaches triathletes. She's EXCELLENT!

I think you'll want to get in touch with Emerald Aquatics.  I believe the same gina that someone mentioned earlier coaches the team.  IIRC they have open water practices, I could be wrong though.  My advice is to just jump in Dorena reservoir and swim for a while, practicing sighting and getting into a rhythm w/o turns.  You can also take the LTD #91 up the Mckenzie and get off at the leaburg dam for a swim.  There are a bunch of open water races in the puget sound which is just a short Amtrak ride away.

I believe Gina Dhom gave lessons to a friend of mine and it helped him.
