Hey everyone,

I'm planning on making Wednesday and Friday mornings my OWS swim days at the Aurora Reservoir for the next couple weeks. I try to get there around 5 and swim from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. and then head to work.

I'm also hoping to do a Dip and Dash on tuesday nights sometime.

Anyone up for some early morning OWS?

I was going to post to see if anyone has been out to Aurora Rez...curious about the water temp?  I would be up for an early morning swim maybe this Wednesday.  Do they have shower facilities?

Have they skimmed off all the ice cubes yet? Laughing I am going to try the Gravel Pond and the Bowles Reservoir first, even though they are a further drive. I believe that Aurora is mountain fed which is why it never gets really warm.

Ray, I have not seen showers at Aurora Rez.

I might be down for some early morning swims and am wanting to do some of the dip and dash races as well.  Once I get my work schedule straightened out, I'll definitely let you know!

I'm about 98% sure they don't have shower facilities.  I checked the site and there's no mention of them and I've never seen them there.

I don't recall every seeing showers there either but thought maybe I could have missed them.  I would still be up for an early am swim.  I might also try some evening after work if anyone is up for that...

Aurora Res is VERY COLD.

I took the kids up last Thursday - a very warm day - the water was freezing. I don't recall the temp - the life guards did a couple of swims for a job requirement, but that was it, the kids went in up to their knees, and one, on a dare and for a dollar, want out to the rope.

If you have a full wetsuit, wear it.
Don't recall showers. I've done some DipNDashes and changed in the restroom/changing area... but never bothered to hunt for a shower.

Going up to Boulder for OWS this weekend, hopefully it will be warmer.

Well, I got my work schedule figured out and I won't be doing any early morning swims for a while.  Gotta be at work at 4 am! (DOH)

I went out to the Res this morning to swim. I didn't get to swim cause I forgot some money. But, I did talk to the Rangers and they said the water temp is between 55 and 57 right now. I'm going to go out this weekend and get an annual pass and test out the water.

I been swimming there since it opened in mid-May. It has definitely warmed up. I'd say it's about 55 now.  I used a sleeveless and a fullsuit and was much more comfortable with the full suit. I also wore booties and extra cap.

Unfortunately, there aren't any shower facilities there.

I'm planning on doing the DIP part of the dip n dash on 6/17 before I leave for CdA. I'm thinking it might be crowded with Danskin being on 6/29.  Alot of women will be getting in their first ow swim.

btw-was anyone else out there on Saturday. The currents were so rough that we had whitecaps! That doesn't happen very often out there.

Yes - some friends and I were there. Took a few gulps of water in. It was definitely a good day for a learning experience, if not a great swim

UPDATE:

I swam at the Res last night. It was pretty nice. The posted water temp was 60 degrees. It felt a little chilly when I first walked in, but after swimming a couple hundred yards I didn't even notice it. I had my full wetsuit on and was fine.

Sunsets out there sure are nice!

Any updates on the water temperatures?

I am not familiar with Aurora, where do you swim out there? Let me know if you are still doing morning swims.

There is a 100 yard marked course at the main beach. You swim just outside of the main swimming area and it is 100 yards one way...

I swam this morning at 5:30. Beautiful morning. Air temp was 58 degrees. Water temp was probably between 62 and 64. I'm guessing. I tried to find the temp posted somewhere, but it wasn't. It was not as cold as it was last week, so I'm sure it is closer to 64.
