enduropro - 2008-06-05 3:38 PM Coldfire, We haven't seen the bike yet. Tob is STILL in the hosiptal. All of the crew is chipping in to buy him new gear (helmet, shorts & jersey)...any extra money will go towards his tri bike. His wife is no expert but thinks it might just be a mangled rear wheel.

Many helmet manufacturers offer a steep replacement discount, usually 50%.

Edit: I should look at the date before responding.  Woops.

OK, so I use HTFU but a mate of mine who is for sure a bit mental uses "Man up, and crack on" I like this one as it can be shortened to just "Man up" and if you are told to "man up" you know you're looking weak!

KauaiShan - 2009-05-14 4:12 PM Just bumping this because I bet some of the other newbies wondered what it meant. I guessed it was "Hurry the F*ck Up).  I like "Harden" even better.  My husband always says just "throw some dirt on it" in response to injuries; sort of the same idea as HTFU

Thanks for bumping this.  I certainly was one that thought is just meant 'hurry', I like 'harden' much better.

Newbie5317 - 2008-06-03 8:20 AM What does HTFU mean? I assume it means "Hurry the F*ck up". But if it does mean that, then people are using it for any answer, which I guess would go along with words like "pwned" for "owned". Little sense, more of a buzz thing.

H is for harden.  The rest you got right.

all this time i was completely wrong about what it stood for.  i, too, thought hurry.  harden makes a lot more sense in all the ways that it is used.  hmm. who knew it was going to be such a productive day?

My vote for the BTer who lives HTFU is Michelle (Shelly123).  She broke her collar bone 5 weeks before Lake Placid last year and with little training that last 5 weeks still finished in a respectable time.  Swimming 2.4 miles with a broken collar bone must have hurt a lot.

Ernie

hmm, i didn't know that, but beyond (apparently) being a bad azz , she also happens to be one of the nicest people i have met.

Even though I "know" it's supposed to be Harden the F up, I still like "Hulk up" instead.  This being a reference to Hulk Hogan in his matches.  Here is a quote from Hogan's Wiki page.
"Hogan would deliver steady offense, but eventually lose momentum, seemingly nearing defeat. He would then experience a sudden second wind
, fighting back while "feeding" off the energy of the audience, becoming impervious to attack—a process described as 'hulking up'"

As a long time wrestling fan (well, until I managed to become a person of adult age) I think I'll always associate HTFU with the Hulkster, and his 2nd wind and comeback wins.

I thought it stood for "hairy."  I've been rubbing Rogaine all over my entire body for the past year thinking it would make me a better triathlete.  WTF?
