Expert 1226 Chicago | Subject: RE: Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon What's the consensus when it comes to wetsuit removal? Take it off IN the water and then rinse your feet off in the pools on the way to T1? I really hope they wouldn't cancel the swim. Just hydrate well and pee in your wetsuit. I may try and find some arm warmers for the first part of the bike. Or at least take some knee socks and cut 'em up to keep warm. I have issues regulating my temp once I get cold. No matter what happens with the swim temps, hopefully everyone has a safe and successful race. I'd hate to see the med tent full of folks dealing with hypothermia. |

over a barrier | Subject: RE: Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon its much easier to take your suit off in transition....just run through the wade pools and remove at your T1 spot. I think i'm going to buy a full sleeve suit in the morning....the big john might be light on the warmth....i already have the neoprene hood. |

Veteran 377 Waukesha, WI | Subject: RE: Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon I didn't look through my swag bag until I got home, assuming a handbook or something was in it. No such luck, so I still don't know what times transition opens/closes tomorrow for the Sprint. Does anyone know? Edit for another question: Where do/did we get our chips? There wasn't one in my bag and I didn't see a place to pick one up. Are they handed out tomorrow? Edited by jenndocmartin 2008-07-18 9:13 PM |

Expert 1148 NW Suburbs, Illinois | Subject: RE: Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon Chips are handed out race morning for sure. Transition opened at 5am last year. Not sure about this year. I vote for taking it off in transition. I did that last year and seemed to pass a ton of people. Not to mention hearing people that cramped up trying to get it off in the water. See y'all soon! |

Master 1695 STL | Subject: RE: Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon ok water temp thing...really, how cold is it actually dangerous to swim in? i wouldn't mess with trying to put arm warmers on after the swim, can you imagine the time it will take to get something like that on your sticky wet arms? (i am saying this to encourage myself that it won't be that bad--i HATE being cold, it's the worse thing in the world to me! called kiefers in Zion, they were sold out of neoprene caps, may call the one in MKE. finishing time? considering i am way under trained (longest run 8 1\2 miles and longest brick 1 1\2 ride with 30 min run) i want to finish it and not walk any of the run. i would like to avg 17 on the bike and between a 9-10min mile on the run being that i am so undertrained for it. the swim, i would like to finish before they make us get out of the water! |

Master 1529 Living in the past | Subject: RE: Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon scoobysdad - 2008-07-19 9:27 AM Anybody know which Racine exit I should take coming south on I-94 to get to the race site? Several options: 1. Ryan Road - head east to Hwy 32. South on 32 which turns into Douglas. 32/Douglas into downtown. NOTE: Douglas will intersect Barker about 6 blocks west of North Beach Park. Barker is the south end of North Beach Park and the south end of the transition area. 2. Hwy K (Northwestern) - head east to Hwy 38. Hwy 38 to Rapids Drive. Rapids Drive to Douglas into downtown (probably the most direct and the route I will likely take). See NOTE above. 3. Hwy 20 (exit 333??) - head east all the way into downtown. This winds through the most of the res./downtown streets and puts you on the south side of the river and to the south of the transition area. |

I hear ya on being concerned about water temp--I was too. I did the Sprint today in a sleeveless wetsuit (most had full wetsuits, a few had none believe it or not). It was numbingly cold on my arms, feet, and face (I wore two normal latex swim caps and it was fine) but I got through it and actually put up a respectable time (for me). Just look at it as something you've gotta get through and you will. Everyone else there is getting through it just like you, and it's fun to chat and have a laugh over it too. |

Expert 1226 Chicago | Subject: RE: Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon So I'm a bit concerned about my number. I think I may have someone else's. It's #283. I didn't see any other F25-29 with a similar number. And when I racked my bike, there were guys in my area. Hrmm. This could be interesting. I suppose we'll see!! |

Master 1480 Muskego, WI | Subject: RE: Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon did the sprint also today(water 58)...hard to do a good free style for the first several minutes, then your face get used to it. Did have to breathe every other stroke though, no third stroke possible...way too high of O2 requirements! Hands and feet really cold, even arms were getting cold at the end (of our short swim). The calm water was amazing though. GOOD LUCK all of you! (most of us were pretty happy with our swims...not alot of current felt!) |

Master 1529 Living in the past | Subject: RE: Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon For those worried about the water temps tomorrow, first, and based on my experience this afternoon, your body gets used to them pretty quickly, and second, the latest imaging as of 6:43p today (19th) shows 65F! Seems the wind direction shift pushed in some warmer water. |

Expert 1226 Chicago | Subject: RE: Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon Great job out there today, everyone!! We came through in heat, sun, fog delays, injuries, crashes, and puking (okay...hopefully it was just me on the puking bit). We really are rockstars!! And of course, yay for no rain!! And a massive high five to whoever wrote "GO BT!!" before the water stop around Mile 45. I was pretty much hating life and that was a brilliant pick me up! I feel like I'm going to go into hibernation for a bit! |

Iron Donkey 38643 , Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Spirit of Racine Half Ironman Triathlon 58 degree F lake (brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr), a heavy fog which delayed the start for an hour, and MUCH warmer from the high 70's temperature (maybe low 80's) and hot sun! Overall, a VERY good race for me though. A special shoutout to those BTers and fellow Donkeys/Donkettes that RAWKED the course, and for those fine jockstrappers for being there keeping us motivated!! EEEEAAAAAWWWWW!!! A special note - anyone find DJ and see how he was doing? Edited by 1stTimeTri 2008-07-20 8:39 PM |
