Subject: 6'8" newbie needs a bike

Hey ya'll,

New to the sport, just finishing up my college basketball career and looking to get into some tris on the side before I get into it seriously when I am done.

I need help finding a bike, whether it be a sale or site, or someone to talk to to fit my frame (6'8" and 240 pounds, probably will be down to 235 for racing weight).

As I am a student, I am not looking for something top of the line but a good beginner bike to help me get started.

Thank you for any input.

I can't help you but there are a ton of guys around your height on here so there is valuable insight. I have found several bikes over time while I was looking for me that would be in your range. The good thing about being your height is the bikes fit less people so when you are buying them new they seem to be a little cheaper. I am 6'2 and ride a 59 cm bike. You will need to get one above 60 I am sure.

What I would do first is find a bike shop. Get them to fit you. They may not have anything is stock your size but if it is a decent size shop they should. Once you find out your size, then you can start looking online, ebay or bikesdirect.com. There are a ton of options. Welcome to the sport and to BT. And good luck

Edit to say I have never seen or heard anyone from Canada use the word ya'll. Thought that was just us hicks from the south.

It all depends on your budget and the bike fit. I'm 6'6" 245 and just bought a Trek Equinox 9.5. XL size. I tried several brands before finding this one and man I knew right away it was the bike for me. Best of all it was on sale so I was able to purchase some Zipp 404 Clyde wheels and still come in cheaper than some of the other bikes I tested. Just take your time and try several different bikes before coming to a decision. The Kuota K-factor was the next closest fit for me so you might try that one if you can find it at a lbs as well.

I got fit first and bought a bike second. In other words find a place where you can sit on a fitting bike and get measured. You will then get a copy of your ideal bike and then go out and find it.
