Subject: Swimming goggle question
I bought a new pair of Speedo swimming goggles for use in the pool a couple of months ago. I can't say I'm over-impressed - they leak just slightly enough to be annoying, unless I screw them so hard into my eye sockets it seems that my eyeballs are exploding! Maybe I just got a bad pair - but however I adjust the strap or nosebridge I just can't get comfortable.

I'm thinking about replacing them, and the Aqua Sphere triathlon/swimming mask (looks like a regular scuba mask, but without the nosepiece incorporated in the frame) looks a more comfortable and waterproof bet. Anybody with any experience/comments about it? - or should I just keep trying for a different goggle?

Thanks

Kevin

I just ordered a seal mask from total immersion. They haven't come in yet.

I'm just getting back to swimming.  Always hated any swimming goggles I used.  Hope the seal mask works better.

I just use the $4 swedish goggles you make yourself... they come in a bag and you can you can make them fit perfectly. they dont have any padding on them, but they seal great. I use them for training and races even open water swims

I have heard only good things about the seal mask. If you choose to stick with goggles, I found the best way to check fit before buying is to put them to your eyes without the strap around your head and lightly press. They should keep their suction without the head strap if the goggle fits your face correctly. If they don't stay suctioned then they do not fit your face properly, and they will always leak.
Different models and different companies fit completely different, so don't rulle out all speedos because your pair leaks. Also most people find that that the foam gaskets just don't work as well as silcone or some of the other trademarked materials on the market.

I also just got a new set of TYR googles and love them. Very comfortable. Got tired of my old cheapo ones digging into my eye sockets and still leaking.

Which model?  I got a pair of speedo and they work great.  It is the vanguisher plus and it sucks onto my eye socket even if the strap is not around my head.  So far the best goggles I've bought.

Fit depends on make/model. I have speedos that I love, and Tyrs that I hate cuz they leak like a sieve. Then again, I've had Tyrs in the past that I liked.  Go figure.  Unfortunately, never really know until you get in the water.

I love my swimseal mask, but i have some regular goggles that are decent too - they don't leak, but they make my sinuses ache. I keep hearing good things about the swedish goggles, so i may end up with a pair of those too...

I been wearing TYRs for the past few months and love them. They're the ones w/ foam and a double strap.  I have a seal mask but it just doesn't work for me. It leaks like a sive.  Goggles fit everyone different so you might have to go through a couple of pairs to find one you reallly like.

Nike goggles suck. I'm just saying.

I use the Jr. Hydrospec something goggles from speedo. They look sort of goofy, but they fit my narrow face. And they don't fog up.

I used the swedish goggles for years and loved them.  Glad to know they still exisit so I can get another pair.  I think it somes down to trying a number of styles to find a pair that fits for you.  I have a pair Nike of goggles that I really like, and a pair of Nike that don't work well at all.  One thing I look for in any brand is a strap that wraps around your head twice.  I find that you don't have to wear them as tight.

Goggles are always a real personal preference thing. that being said, the aquasphere goggles are great when you need the extra vision (like open water swims where you need to sight on stuff in the distance). I don't really like them in the pool as they feel too bulky and wierds when doing turns.
I've personally had really good luck with nike goggle, for in the pool.

When you try on a goggle, put them up to your eye sockets and press in slightly, without putting the strap over your head. They should "suck" into your eye sockets and not be uncomfortable.

Good luck.

I bought a 3 pack of (gotta be) bottom line Speedo's at Sam's club-I think the 3 pack was 12.99 or something. I've been using them for probably 5 months and love them.

Goggles are like shoes... you'll have to find a pair that works for YOU. Your best best is to find a store with a wide selection, and try on every pair you can find. A proper-fitting pair of goggles will stick to your face without the use of the straps, and will be comfortable. And don't bother to look at the price tags... the pair that works best for me is one of the cheapest pairs on the market (a $9.00 pair of TYR goggles with silicon seals instead of foam).

As for the Aqua Sphere mask: Try it, you might like it. I bought one a while ago and I really enjoyed it. The only problem was that they started to leak after 30 or 40 swims, and no amount of cleaning helped. I went back to my cheapo TYRs and haven't looked back.
