The last two races I have been in, they have really checked that the bar ends of the bike are plugged.

Why is this so important?

In an accident you are more likely to get impaled by un-plugged bar ends than ones that are closed.

so in the event of a crash your handlebar doesn't take a core sample out of your thigh. Or other body part(s).

Pure safety issue.

Nice 3/4" diameter holes in people do nothing for aerodynamics .........

Whereas if you have bar end plugs you get a nice dimpled leg effect, which we know will be more aerodynamic and faster .

I want to know who runs around without bar plugs anyway? In 15+ years of riding and racing I have never lost one.

I have lost a couple myself but its more because the tape on the ends were weaken and they fell out easy.

My tape kept spitting out the bar end plug. I discovered this when pulling my bike out of the car. Who knows where it went. They had a bin full of extras though. WHEW!!

I was just going to ask today why do mine keep falling out? Mine fall out at least every other day.

I stand corrected. Guess I've just been lucky. Now I've jinxed myself and I'll lose 15 of them this summer.

Yes.  Yes you did.  I seem to lose mine regularly but randomly.  I don't know why.

Yeah, I think you did.  I lose at least one per year, but only from the left side.  Don't know why.  Maybe the tape isn't done as well on that side or something.
