How accurate are the Total Calories Burned measures in Heart Rate Monitors?

I've got a Timex digital HRM that requires weight input, and now that I've established (and input) a max HR, I'd like to know how accurate the darn thing is.

Thanks,

Steven

Don't know much about them, but I'd have it(or yourself checked) if it ever read 0 bpm....

I'm just guessing here but I'd think that if it can incorporate enough of your personal data...at least weight and sport-specific max HR...then it is about as good as you can get short of a clinical test using lots of sophisticated equipment. I'll guess it's +/- 10%. Okay, now maybe someone who actually knows something about this question can suggest a better answer
