Hi,

I try to eat healthly and every 4 hours.

During the day i have a tuna sandwich, Larabar bars, porridge with milk and honey and assorted nuts or trail mix. I also drink orange juice and whey protein.

My main meal is in the evening. I eat mostly fish, mashed potato or sweet potato, veggies and a salad. On some days I have a Amy's pizza that is organic and low in fat (800 calories).

Before i go to sleep I have a bowl of Special K Vanilla with Lactaid milk.

The problem is that I feel extremely hungry at about 3am and have to get up and eat something. I also noticed that, when I get up I feel very weak and tired and it lasts for hours.

Can anyone give me some advice on what to do? Is my diet OK?

thank you.

I am by no means an expert on nutrition... I struggle every day with this one.

depending on your training level and intensity (you aren't logging those) you may need more protein and carbs for a recovery to get you thru the night and also help with the night night munchies...

I drink a Mulscle Milk and Whey protein shake before bed. It adds a lot of calories, so be careful, but it keeps me from waking up hungry. I've also found that it aids in recovery and you build muscle. There's a whole thread on Muscle Milk if you aren't familiar with it.

1 scoop Muscle Milk (mocha flavor)
1 scoop chocolate whey protein
1 1/2 cups water

Blend and enjoy!

I just wanted to say that I also consume a lot of Larabars and Amy's pizzas!
Are you gluten free/celiac?

Try adding some protein in the last meal before you go to bed.  I'm starving if I eat just carbs.  I know there is a little in the milk, but try for more like 20 g.

Cottage Cheese right before bed helps for me.  A little pepper on it and it is tasty.

First off Special K Vanilla is the best tasting cereal ever made. I eat it at least once a day. As for your hunger at 3 am, I suggest eating more through out the day. This is your body's way of telling you it needs more calories. Maybe you can add another snack or increase your current portions. Another option is to make a week long food journal and see if your eating enough for the amount of training you do.

Smart start with Activa Vanilla fat free yogurt is the best!  And you can mix in fruit and it makes a great dessert.

Also not an expert and certainly not a health nut, but what I have heard some people doing, mainly bodybuilders with super lean diets, is have some a thing of protien powder next to your bed. Wake up, down 150 calories worth of protien powder, make it one of those sweet ones so you get some carbs.

Either that or pig out on chips before bed....

Sounds like a typical problem for people who train... as everyone has told you, you're lacking in protein intake and probably need to increase that either with your last meal, or an hour or so before bedtime. A glass of milk does go a long way.

My thoughts exactly. I would have to go on some sort of a binge if I waited 4hrs in between feedings.

Up your protein & H2O intakes, and possibly healthy fats (olive oil & avocado works for me).
