Subject: SOR HIM Bike Course Recon Ride

I'll be doing the SOR HIM for the first time next month. I'd like to recon the complete (most of the) bike route and am gaging interest in doing so as a group. Who's interested????

Given the distance and a reasonable pace, I'm estimating a 3:30 time of effort. I'm usually an early AM exerciser, so would first prefer a weekend morning, but could be convinced of a weekday after work (4:30p ish), or a weekend day.

To get the process started, I'll propose Saturday/Sunday July 12/13, 9:00a "wheels up"

It's my first HIM too. I'd be more interested in that Saturday, but willing to go when the group goes. i even threw out the holiday weekend before in a previous post. That may give us a little longer to taper. I'm really would be up for whenever. Force, take the lead and others will follow.

Careful with the holiday weekend. Last year, I rode 4th weekend and was rerouted as the course goes through a parade route. I don't remember on the course where the parade went...I know its west of the express way. Just a heads up.

Sorry, didn't see your previous post. I'd have to beg off the holiday ride as I have other commitments, but if the sentiment of those that reply is for a day I can't make it, so be it.

I'll see how this thread goes....

info on Racine parade

The "preparade" starts at 8:15 and the parade at 9:00. The "preparade consists of firetrucks, motorcylces and other driving units. Instead of lining them up on Main they use Michigan Bvld. which runs along the lake. I don't know how far they go back , but I don't think as far back as the tran area ( barker street). It is a bit of a zoo (no pun intended) before the parade , but main street is open. If you left early enough you would be ok.

Probably not worth the hassle, traffic, people, cars, etc. I'm down for the weekend after. 7 12/13.

Also, what about a Lake Michigan swim to boot?

I've got a 1 1/2 hour car ride ahead of me to get there, so i am down for a later morning, but i am down for whatever the group wants to do. I'd do the swim too.

I am planning on riding the course either july 5-6 depending on weather forecast - time about 7AM. I will not be around on the 12/13th so my options are limited. I might even consider a 1/2 HIM ride 6/29. Anyone interested on July 5-6th let me know

Steve

Early on Sunday the 13th would work for me...but it would have to be quite early.  I would need to be home by 10:30 am.

OK, the thread has gotten a bit stale, but I'm still planning a recon ride this weekend. There seems no sharp concensus as to day/time, other than morning. Therefore, I'm gonna lay down a day/time and see who can join in...

Saturday, July 12, "wheels up" at 7:30a from the parking lot on the north side of Barker Street, right in North Beach Park. I believe this is the transition area for the race, but don't hold me to that. As I said at the beginning of the post, I envision a 3 - 3 1/2 hour ride, but we can make a pace determination based on who is riding. I'll bring course maps, but make sure you bring your own nutrition/hydration.

I'll be riding a Specialized Roubaix (red, of course) for ID purposes.

So, roll-call of those planning to participate.....drop me a PM with a cell number and I'll do the same.

Hope to have a good turn out.

By appearances, turnout tomorrow AM will be low (one). Undaunted, I am still planning to ride as indicated above. If others intend to ride, but on their own schedules, ya'all may find the attached "cue sheet", helpful - it is a turn-by-turn description of the course, with mile mark and leg mileages (accurate to that of the BT route logger and my mouse skills).
