I have not heard anything about this yet, but it appears they've done it.

What's the difference in weight (with the battery) between the electronic and the normal?

Looks like a very complicated solution to a problem that didn't exist.

The only upgrade I see is you can shift from either position which would be nice on group rides. I'm sure it costs more than this is worth though.

Haven't they had this for a few years now?  They did a demo of it on TDF coverage a couple years ago. Not sure how widespread it is in the peloton.  I'm guessing not very.

Shimano attempted an electronic system a few years ago with no real success or interest in the market.  They have worked with the new 7900 series Dura Ace to do a new system and they have been testing it on a few Pro Tour teams.  Some are using it in the Tour even.

Cyclingnews had a blurb on it a few months back that I had posted in another thread on this, but I can't find the article on the site anymore.

Who wouldn't want one of those, because, I mean, pushing those damn levers is soooooo tiring. Surely I could podium if it weren't for having to overcome the fatigue of all those gear changes.

I only have one word for anyone thinking of getting this....WATER.....unless you ride in a perfectly dry enviorenment this will most likely fail.

I bought a K2 mountain several years back with an electronic front fork.  Magenets passed and controlled oil flow to the shock.  WORKED GREAT, until it got wet at all.  I went through 4, then the bike shop simply credited me the value and let me pick out a new shock.

Sometimes it simply better to keep things simply and proven.

There are plenty of complex peices of electronic equipment that function fine in the rain/water. I am not sure why Shimano engineers wouldnt be smart enough to consider this.

Putting aside whether its cost-prohibitive or not, they'd come in handy if you could integrate them with clip on aeros.

I would hope that they would but I would have also figured that K2 would have also thought of it when adding it to a mountain bike of all things.

They do seem very cool and if I had the money...I'd probably get them just to be one of the first kids on the block with a cool new toy lol....
