hey, looking to get a bike trainer to decrease my odds of getting flattend in the god forsaken memphis traffic! I am looking to spend between $200- $300 , any feedback would be great. Thanks

I am very happy with my Kurt Kinetic.

It got me through the Minnesota winter in shape, and is reasonably quiet.

Tyler,

I have the cyclops magneto...but I probably would have spent the extra money to get the fluid trainer, supposed to be more quiet so I wouldn't have to turn the tv up as loud.

I have a Cyclops Fluid 2 that I got a pretty good deal through my LBS (A group of us bought 10 of them)

It has worked well for me the past two seasons. It is quiet and the resistance is smooth. No issues so far.

I like the CycleOps Fluid 2. I got a great deal on ebay. Very quiet and easy set up.

Happy training!

I have the Travel Trac Century V (fluid trainer) from Performance. It works well and is reasonably quiet. I would buy it again, but would get the model without the 'gear shifter'. It's basically a waste of money since you can just shift on your bike.

X2 on the Kurt Kinetic. I have the Road Machine and it's great.

Kurt is my first pic, Cycleops is my second.

By all means go fluid, the wind ones are too noisy and magnetics don't seem to have proper resistance.

I've read all the posts on many of the "which bike trainer should I get" threads and it seems like the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine and the CycleOps Fluid II are by far the most popular bike trainers.  I've done some research and I think I can get either for about the same price, and there are options to get them in packages with "extras".

Two questions:  is there any consensus on which is "better" or "worth more," and which accessories are essential.  To not ruin the carpet, I'm assuming we'll need a mat, and most people recommend the block, but what about the watt/power computer thing?  Is it nice to have or critical to training.  There will be two of us training for a HIM all winter on this thing, so I really want something we'll be happy with.  Oh, and I guess that also means that being able to switch out the bikes easily is important.

Thanks!!
