Being red headed and fair skinned, I always have sun screen with me. I burn quickly and badly. So what I'm wondering is how do you work reapplication of sun screen into doing a triathlon? I know I'll burn if I don't reapply somewhere, but where? Should I go with a spray or the regular stuff? What does anyone else do?

In oly or shorter, I just put a lot of lotion on before the swim (the sweat proof and water proof versions).  It seems to stay put for the 2-3 hours.

In the longer races I have been to, one had people to apply sunscreen to you in T1.  In the other, I just take a little more time in transition to reapply.  A little longer time during transitions in the longer races is acceptable to me.

Have you tried a product called Kinesys? I use it on my platinum haired little boy at the cottage: one application in the AM , he is in and out of the water all day and he does not burn. It is a fantastic sunscreen, recommended for use during sports....no I don't work for them!

I use the sweatproof sport Bananaboat spray before a race and it works great, even after the swim......and I am strawberry blonde with fair skin. Just apply before you put on the wetsuit.

You could just use straight up zinc oxide or diaper rash ointment. Trust me that stuff wont rub off. Other than that, I like banana boat the best. ITs not cheap but Ive tried every sunscreen and BB is my fave.

I just had some spray-on sunscreen eat the paint off my new ironman watch, so be careful what you use and where you apply it...

I've been using Coppertone Sport 30 for quite a few years and have been satisfied with it. After three years of building decks it never failed me, with no eye burn. It seems to last fine for my 3 to 4 hour bike rides, and fine for Olys applied before hand, but your needs may need more.

I plan on using the Coppertone Sport 30 or 50 for my HIM before the race starts, but will have a 50 spf spray bottle for T2 if I think it's needed, may even spray my shoulders and neck in T1. 6 hours in the sun will be longer then I'm used to of late.

x2 on the Kinesys.

It works the best and stays on the longest of any sunscreen I've ever used.  AND I can't feel it on my skin either.  I apply it once liberally before the start of the race and I'm good to go.  Use the 30 type, not the 15.

I've raced sprints/olys - never a 1/2 - in that case I'd probably need to reapply.

I've had excellent luck with Bullfrog Marathon Mist for training, racing, the beach, everywhere.

For whatever reason it seems to be hard to find in the stores around here, so I get it from Walgreens.com
