Since there are usually postings on cyclists getting hit, I thought this was pretty interesting - especially the light sentence...as someone mentioned in the ER doc thread..an idiot is an idiot no matter what the mode of transportation

In the US, I believe he could be convicted of manslaughter. This guy is a scumbag. I am sure he didn't mean to kill her, but he made a choice to hit her instead of slowing down.

Is that an actual news site? That's about as onesided an article as could have been written.

Since there was an "article" about Posh Spice, I'd just want to state that Posh Spice is HAWT.

Oh, and the cyclist is a scumbag.  Carry on.

Yes it is.  The Daily Mail has been around for a while.  Some consider it a "tabloid" and not a true news rag.

That's terrible. What a d-bag.

Article was typical crap. Like the price of the bike had ANYTHING to do with the story. And mentioning the material makeup? Had nothing to do with the accident or the outcome.

Interesting that there is no interview with said d'bag.  Or I guess I should say typical.

Surprising that the penalty is so minimal too.

Although the cyclist should have been more in control of his bike, I'm not sure that I would qualify him as a d-bag.  She wasn't paying attention to her surroundings.  Wrong place, wrong time...accident.  He certainly doesn't seem malicious.  She could have just as easily walked in front of a truck.  That sad, I feel sorrow for her parents, certainly.  I'm not trying to be cold, but sometimes accidents are just that...accidents.

Sidenote: why is the cyclist's bike brand relevant to this story?  It makes it sound that b/c he was riding a fancy-pants custom-built that he was reckless and negligent.  Silly.

Lobstergirl, I am not sure you can call this an accident. I am all for personal responsibility on both sides, but the guy admitted in court that he could have slowed down and avoided hitting her. He chose to hurt her. That qualifies him as a D-bag in my book.

The price of the bike is irrelevent, except to fire up the class struggle argument.

Yeah, but the article said the guy's a "line painter". I'm not quite sure what that is, but it doesn't sound like a highly paid profession, which makes the inclusion of the bike's price all the more odd.

I also "love" the line about how the cyclist is "well-known in his hometown as a thrill-seeker." I'd venture that, by many people's definition, that term could be applied to any cyclist on a road bike.

But clearly, this guy made a very poor decision and has a track record of doing so. He needs a taste of the Big House.
