Subject: Garmin Pace Options
I have seen a lot of posts that mention not to use the current pace option on the Garmin. I just bought the 305, mainly for pacing and now I'm wondering what option to use to keep an eye on my pace. What setting do you use?

Lap pace is a better number.  Then set it to auto lap at each mile.

Lap pace set up to 1 mile (could even do .25 if you wanted) or overall pace.  Current pace is sketchy as it changes quite a bit.

I display current pace and average pace on the main running screen. I display current lap pace on a second screen.

Another vote for lap pace.  I don't auto-lap mine because sometimes I'm interested in laps of different lengths (as when doing intervals with recoveries -- I lap at the end of an interval and the end of a recovery), but I don't find pushing the lap button too onerous...

You can adjust the length of time over which current pace averages, and this helps a bit, but even when it is set to the longest possible time on mine, I still find that it fluctuates too much to be reliable.  Lap pace seems to be quite reliable, however.
